Rto canada

Has anyone in canada been told that they have to RTO? And if so did you move home for covid or have you been home long before covid? Thx

What do you think about being unilaterally assigned to a new office without notice? I was in the office just once a week pre-covid and have not been back since. My old office was at 3600 steeles, which I could easily drive to and park for free at, and it is being shut down. Without any consultation or notice whatsoever, I see in the "People" app that my office is now downtown at York Street, which for practical purposes is impossible to drive to. The obvious fallback would have been the laboratory at Warden.
Has anybody had their office location arbitrarily changed without any consultation or notice? Any thoughts on whether this is something I should be able to contest and get changed to the more convenient warden location?

Where someone worked before Covid has no bearing. RTO means everyone within a geographic radius of an office must work in the office a predetermined number of days.

Any employer can ask an employee to RTO to perform their duties. As an employee if you refuse you better have reason to. Is it because of medical issues, or do you live 100 km from an office location or are you looking after your 90 year old parent or disabled child and require an accommodation or is it a toxic in person workplace - in which case they need to accommodate your human rights. Short of examples like the above - good luck with weaselling out of RTO mandate.

The OPs question tells the whole story. Where you told to RTO and before Covid did you not work in an office? OP wants to hear yes and no. So they can then call their lawyer and begin to file a without a cause severance settlement.

Using the term country-wide is a bit rich. The truth is RAs happen in Canada all the time contrary to the narrative that CDNs can't be laid off. Yes, the bulk will be in Markham/Toronto because that is where the bulk of staff are and yes Fredericton, Montreal, and Ottawa might have got hit - but that doesn't mean it's the first RA that happened in multiple CDN locations in the last 10 years. And the comments in this thread about taking "2 years to sack a CDN" and being "fire-free" are simply fiction.

Whoever said “the first one in 10 years” has absolutely no clue. A 30 second google search shows multiple suits within the past few years. Milwid v IBM Canada / Amberber v IBM Canada / Frith v IBM Canada and the list goes on… only Waterman and Nagpal were from 10 years back

Canadians are not fire free - not sure where you are getting that from - there was a country wide RA in Canada in April. Just because Canada has tougher labour laws, which means better severance, doesn’t mean we are fire free. Google all of the cases in Canada for IBMers fired without cause.

Why do you care? Canadians are virtually "fire free" it will take them almost 2 years to sack you and then you'll just get a sweet pay off. Start looking for a new employer now.

If your bluepages has an address the expectation is 3 days per week at office. If your BP says work from home or mobile then it’s based on what your org says and what your FLM says
