Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

Outsourcing to Mexico

Officially, my department has been confirmed to be outsourcing our positions to Mexico City. We are now being forced to train and sit with our replacements in a pilot program to make sure they understand the job and all that comes with it! After the fiasco of providing us with incorrect merit increases effective 10/1, no one on my team feels secure in our position or happy with this job anymore! Tired of being lied to, gaslit and absolutely drained of all of my happiness and energy by this place!
If you’re not familiar with the merit increase fiasco, allow me to elaborate! Prior to October, we were emailed our merit increases by our new people manager (who is NOT a people manager, but strictly only cares about numbers) and were told they would go into effect 10/1. Around rolls 10/1 and the first paycheck that should be reflecting said merit increase we were sent; we all noticed our paychecks were not reflecting even remotely close to the amount we were promised, and after multiple people escalated their concerns, we were told it’s being handled by HR and we’d be informed when more information was available. Fast forward four weeks from our escalation, and no information regarding the discrepancy was provided, until one employee spoke up in a meeting to our TAM/ROC leader in which we received the talking points which were very studied and got an “ooops, we messed up”. Our merits were duplicated, so instead of the amount we were told, we would be receiving half of that amount! No admittance of wrong doing or apologies were given, just the generic, ‘we know this isn’t the results you all wanted but it is what it is”.

Yet again, fast forward to this week, where we are now being informed additionally farmed employees from another country will be piloted and we’re to train them and provide candid feedback about the progress and process. I’m sick of it, and sick to my stomach with not knowing when my last night clocking out will be my LAST time clocking out with this company that continues to circle the drain!

I kept telling people at Nielsen the importance of unionizing. What a shame it has come to this.

‘With 3 options to extend one year - IF NEEDED....’

Probably won’t be necessary—plenty of time remaining in the contract to outsource all who are left…😬

In a press statement, Nielsen said, “Nielsen has committed to purchase services from TCS from the Effective Date through the remaining term of the Agreement (the ‘Minimum Commitment’) in the amount of $2.25 billion, including a commitment to purchase at least $320 million in services per year from 2017 through 2020, $186 million in services per year from 2021 through 2024, and $139.5 million in services in 2025.”

With 3 options to extend one year - IF NEEDED....

OP here and multiple people who know me, know who I am and I don’t care. I won’t sit silently and be gaslit into thinking my job is rainbows and butterflies! “Be lucky you have a job” posts can be taken and shoved.

In response to:

‘Unfortunately it’s probably due to the the current economic climate teetering on a recession. Things have just gotten so expensive and companies are trying to stay afloat. Just happy to have survived the rift and have a job. Perspective is everything. Btw I don’t know how “anonymous” these posts are.’

Nielsen has been making calculated decisions to outsource for YEARS… new contracts as of September (do research online— it’s all there). This is part and parcel of take-over— not some defensive move based on the economy. The stated ‘perspective’ is naive, at best—more likely, one that is being broadcast by higher-ups to eschew the truth and muddy the waters— even going so far as to attempt to shut down open dialogue in this forum by suggesting that these posts might not be ‘anonymous’.
Keep the conversation going—solidarity and honesty amongst ourselves may be all we can truly count on at this juncture.

Nielsen has had revenue growth for over 30 consecutive quarters and 70% of it's revenue is coming from long-term contracts....

The recession everybody was 'warning' about - ain't happening.

Outsourcing to Mexico is just terrible. This decision comes from much higher up. Unfortunately it’s probably due to the the current economic climate teetering on a recession. Things have just gotten so expensive and companies are trying to stay afloat. Just happy to have survived the rift and have a job. Perspective is everything. Btw I don’t know how “anonymous” these posts are.

Sorry to read this. Like someone else posted, I too was around during the early Habib days in 2007 when they began mass outsourcing of just about anything they could to India. Since I was a rev generator in a client sales position, I didn't feel it directly however after about a year everything support related to my clients went to India and they were hella not happy about it. But it was what it was. I remember Habib saying something to the effect when challenged about this strategy being unethical to Americans he said "By us (meaning Nielsen) shipping your jobs overseas to cut expenses, that makes me about the biggest capitalists there is and that is indeed very AMERICAN." True story. He said that.

Too bad we can’t all walk out at the same time and leave them stirring in their own sh-t.

Same thing happened years ago when Habib first started off-shoring to TATA .... (THE CURRENT TEAM FROM GUADALAJARA MEXICO IS A TATA COMPANY).

A friend of mine worked in a big department of about 300 people where they did processing. He was taken into a room where the windows were covered up and was told that if he spoke about what they were getting ready to tell him he would be fired immediately.

They proceeded to tell him they were going to set him up with video conferencing with the folks in India and he was to train them how to do the department's job and after which the entire department was going to be let go. He initially agreed but then felt so unethical that he ended up quitting in the middle of it.... I helped him write his resignation letter.

I wonder if they're going to be this transparent with a call center and give them a heads up too or just slowly bring in more of the 'GDL' teams while they manage the remaining staff out.

I recently heard from another ex colleague that Audio was going away completely. (But that is unconfirmed.)

Is there any way we can file a lawsuit for the confirmed merit raises and then the take backs on the amount? That has to be illegal.

They go into effect on 10/1, then the next paycheck reflects the increase.
