Finance also getting hit. I was one of them. Got the slack call and then everything deactivated once call ended.
As someone who was laid off from Viasat back in March, welcome to the most brutal job market I have ever seen. You can thank the sh---y leaders at Viasat for putting you in this predicament while inevitably protecting their own livelihoods.
But but but Guru exclaimed at the all hands that we have more than $2billion in the bank and we'll be ok. And Mark followed that up with the company's ability rebound from satellite failures has never been better. I'm shocked, shocked I say.
Got the boot a few hours ago. Used to work at Carlsbad before becoming full remote. My team was fully remote and at the time, they really needed office space. Kind of weird how empty they were before the lay off.
Yesterday night my Slack had logged me off and somehow, I got it working this morning. After working for a couple of hours, someone in HR reached out and conveyed the message. My laptop logged me off immediately and locked itself. Done!
They decided your dev team will no longer be important going forward for the company.
Almost half of our development team were laid off, of which most were quite senior and very important.
Two software engineers in Carlsbad were just fired.
If Guru and Mark had ba--s, they would cut some of the executives that make these stupid decisions that lead us to this point
Laid off. Marlboro, MA office
Searching for names in Slack and seeing people deactivated today
Don't worry the stock is down another dollar so everything is going back to normal
If you're letting go of engineers, what's next for a company whose core competency was supposed to be engineering?
Just got off a Slack call and was laid off. Carlsbad.
Confirm layoffs in Germantown. Laid off.
Laid off from Tempe, software, i got 13 weeks
Got axed after 20 years fun years. The company is too top heavy for a while and firing all the wrong people! The culture has been changing for a while people with less technical skills chasing titles and middle management positions!
Why lay off the people that make the money for the company. They need to get rid of most of facilities and security personnel. Most of them make way more money the engineers and the buildings are still falling apart. Heard Security doesn’t do anything but sit on a front desk to play IT do those check in kiosks. Get paid to do nothing must be nice.
Sounds like severance is 3 months. At least 3 gone from the design and research group.
My network access was clipped while I was live on the phone with the Viasat leader & HR rep. Working remotely, based out of Carlsbad. Good luck everybody.
Anyone know what the severance package was?
A deathly silence in the internal slack channels. Everyone is waiting and freaking out quetly
Rumor is 600 total worldwide. 200 from legacy Inmarsat, 400 from legacy Viasat
