For example, the recently posted VP Product role has a base salary of $400k plus target bonus and stock comp brining total comp to $1M plus (I know someone who was approached about the job). One can only hope this would be paid for by laying off 1-2 other VP’s rather than laying off 4-5 Sr devs (for example) and further bloating the enormous Sr leadership layer… however, the same execs who got the company here tend to protect themselves during layoffs, so exec bloat is probably going to be the outcome.

If I were interviewing for the VP position, I would say F your worthless stock and pay me $1M in salary instead.
