Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Just Received Preliminary Job Offer

When we were told about layoffs, I started job hunting. It has taken a ridiculously long time, but by sheer luck, I just got an initial job offer for 25% more than I was making at Schwab. And was just laid off. I have to figure out how to best b vitiate my start date so I maximize the severance.

To everyone else who was laid off today, all the best! You will land on your feet.

“God’s grace”? It’s more accurate to call it God’s whim.

OP here- my line of work was in a data/analytics role within CRM (1st LOD).

I am working on figuring out a start date for this offer. If the severance agreement requires that I let the company know and don’t get it, then so be it. I just want the security of a new role and some sort of break to just chill. Hopefully at least a week or two. I’ve asked for it, but I doubt the new hiring manager will want to wait till Jan for me to start the role. I won’t be taking more severance or bonus than required per the terms. It’s tempting to be angry and do it, but since I’m landing on my feet, I wouldn’t be happy to take more than my fair share. I’m just grateful. Good luck to everyone else!

Schwab would have NO WAY of knowing if you accepted a new job. Accept the new job, start whenever you want and just don't tell Schwab. You will still get the severance either way, but completing the WARN period will ensure you also get the bonus (whatever that winds up being) and it would be better for taxes.

Congrats. Great to hear a success story. I reckon there will be others like you. People need to hear this so the brutality of this layoff doesn't demotivate them. It really will get better and there is a tomorrow.

Impressive. Make your start date to be after the notice period end date. Will they do it? You will still get your severance I think if you joined once after the notice period starts on Nov 6. Only that you won't be paid during the notice period since you already have a job. Please make sure you inform them so your termination date can be advanced. Best of luck. I am going to go on my long planned vacation!!! Woo hoo!!!
