Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Rant post: things are going to get way worse before they get better

layoffs are just the start. i am significantly more anxious for the re-org. there is a lot more too that then just shuffling some teams. with the way layoffs and RTO has been bungled? this is going to be a spectacular mess...

first: leaders will be shifted. what that means is leaders will be writing performance reviews for people they literally have never worked with before, and employees will have something who doesnt know them at all giving them a rating. that is only going to lead to distrust and re-rode cohesion come march (especially when bonuses are doled out)

Second: people will be put on teams/roles that might not align with their strengths, skillset or background. we are going to have a lot of folks figuring out what the heck there job is and reaching out to other people asking "hey how did you do this?" while that other person is also figuring out there job.

third: they are trying to "flatten out" the hierarchy, and make it more level to get things done. getting anything done now takes the approval from a half dozen different folks who arent with the "hierarchy", whats going to happen when there are more people at different levels who USED to be a part of something still demanding they be "looped in" to tasks that dont have anything to do with them?

fourth: there is a good chance people will be moved to leadership positions who should absolutely not be there. They might have years at the company, or led a small team years ago, but they just lack any real leadership quality and arent willing to improve. welcome to a new world of micromanagement.

all while budgets get tightened, and people fight for parking to sit in a cube on webex calls all day...

rant over. think ill be logging off this site for awhile..goodluck everyone, sincerely hope you have your resumé updated and plenty of applications out there

Remember we all used to work 60 hours a week before 1940. Working long hours is nothing new. My skip level convened “emergency” ad hoc meeting right after required 60-hour work week telegram was received, to hear our concerns. Everyone complained about their own situations, how they got used to being with their family and they had their lives revolve around being at home and like the ability to pick up kids, running errands and whatever else instead of dying in the coal mine. Then someone complained about having to bring their own shovel and wheelbarrow, and having to walk 30 minutes to work. I was floored. This person was serious about it and really looked distraught. It was insane.

But the layoff telegram was received soon after that. This person shut their mouth and never brought it up again. Funny how things work sometimes. Dirty proles.

There are already plenty of people in leadership roles who shouldn't have them. Flattening the hierarchy here would be a good thing if that is what they are actually going to do.

All sounds about right when you do mass layoffs…

The EC can be flexible and so can you.

Why are you laughing?
