Thread regarding Avaya layoffs

Field Services to End in USA

Avaya is ending customer services and moving that operation to the channel partners. This transition is now almost complete with very little if any Avaya direct work being accepted. Because of this,
Avaya has lost touch with its customer base and revenue has declined in step.
The new motto at Avaya should be, Don't Call Us, We'll Call You, not.

13 years ago or so my local office closed and why not, barely anyone left anyway. A retired old Bell guy stopped by to check things out. I followed him while he walked around the office shaking his head and looking for free bo--y to scavenge. After seeing everything was pretty much gone he looked at me and said "I don't know what's going to be left for the next generation of phone man". Next generation of phone man? Thats a good one. I told him there wasn't going to be a next generation phone man.

It was lot of fun and a good ride but everything has an end. The days of being paid a union wage with benefits and a pension to replace Partner phones or unbox telephone sets is sadly over.
