I was eliminated after 31+ years at 3M (was not able to retire - not 55). In early October was offered a one year contract job within 3M Remain Co. I accepted the position with a start date of November 1 or before. This week the hiring manager called and said, sorry I changed my mind. She would not provide any additional insight into why. I have heard a few people say they can't hire former 3Mers per HR direction yet some are contracting in the new HC business. Anyone have any insight as to why we are getting blocked from contract jobs or rehire?

I personally know about a former employee, laid off in 2022, then re-hired into a different position in spinco recently.
My position was eliminated one year ago with the same wait period so that should not have been the reason.
On the service group side of things, rule of thumb was no coming back contract for 6 months if you accepted a buyout package as part of your termination. If no buyout package, then only a one month waiting period.
