I'll be honest with you, if I had to choose between having to RTO and being laid off, I'd happily choose the door. I worry much more about that than layoffs.

I’m with you. The thought of rto is terrifying to me personally. I’m so much more productive and less distracted at home. There’s no need to waste hours per day getting ready and driving to be distracted by everyone’s nonsense in the office just to sit in a cube uncomfortably to perform the same video calls i can do better on from home without all the noise. Such a waste of time and energy for those of us who are doing well at home.
I am most definitely coming back to the office for at least a few months just to see the sh*t show. Should be entertaining. Feel free to say hello if you see me sitting on some bean bag in some corner somewhere with my laptop trying to do some work :)
I agree. RTO was far more devastating to me than layoffs. I will resign before I ever step foot into a Schwab office again. I wish they’d lay me off.
Based on how they have rolled out the RTO and the news of layoffs - I would say if you aren't laid off and don't RTO - wait and see how long it takes them to react. I am sure you won't be the only one they will have to deal with. There will be paper work and lawyers on the backside that will need to get everything straight - plus if you weren't laid off means they need you as a resource - and if they just drop you in a day they won't have anyone to replace you and we all know how long it takes Schwab to hire or to really DO ANYTHING
I am one of many who were hired during the "abandon the office" era. I avoided applying to Schwab for over 20 years because I didn't want to make the 30+ mile trip into work, and 30+ back home. If I'm laid off then I won't be making the drive, easy decision.
For RTO, there was a seating plan provided and the person I interact with multiple times per day is a row away. They did seating as alphabetical from what I can tell.
At this point, if I'm not laid off, I might not RTO and they can let me go when they're ready, again....I might not RTO, just not sure at this moment.
Additionally, at this point, if I'm not laid off, I will ask for approval to swap desk location with someone "willing". If not approved, maybe I'll still move closer to peer if possible and if they want to let me go, that's fine.
I wonder how many hired during "vacate the office" will actually give notice when RTO actually happens.
oh i am on some of the RTO planning regarding communication and onsite "events" that will be going down in january. it is a hot mess. and thats just the tip of the iceberg...know how to book a meeting room? know
the first two moths of 2024 are going to be an absolute cluster and productivity will be nonexistent. the last three months are indicative of what the first HALF of next year will be like, not just because of RTO but also because of the reorg too.
I have a feeling that the timing was announced RTO and then layoffs to help coerce anyone still here after the layoff to be thankful they have an office to go into. I also have a feeling that was seriously misguided thinking and the company will have a rude awakening when the survivors RTO with PTSD after this mess.
But maybe those feelings are wrong, time will tell.
Stop this stupid posts . If you want to move out , go ahead . And to the guy who doesn’t understand inflation . I believe government spending is so high around the world and that could be a reason for high inflation . Stop with stupid political thing without an iota of knowledge of how inflation works
No need to choose because you can have both. RTO will be mandatory and layoffs will continue to increase. Someone is going to have to pay for inflation and all this government spending. I think we all know who that will be.
