Heard of a couple lay offs and have a mysterious 1:1 meeting this week. Here we gooo

Would be nice if it were a joke. But timing checks out. In some companies there is an unspoken rule to close out layoffs by around Halloween time if you are going to do them before the new year. Just so you aren't laying people off during major holidays.
Now if you ask me it's still a sh-t time, since most people won't be finding work before the new year if they do that... and will be stressed throughout the holidays.
I respect Mark D. but they made terrible decision to hire Guru. He is destroying company culture. This ship is sinking fast. Mass exodus coming. Especially after layoff announcement thus week. Company lies to us and punishes employees for financial mistakes of leaders.
What happened to the posts about layoffs next week? Just a joke?
The love of GEO strikes me more as marketing and coping. I feel like alone, we probably don't have the ability to set up a significant leo network. We can't launch our own stuff so it is highly unlikely we can compete against starlink with a similar network. Maybe we can launch a smaller number of leo to provide some hybrid low latency. But that would make our whole system more complex. I do think Hybrid networks have a future. And beam steering to focus bandwidth is huge for some key use cases.
The next major issue is probably that we are trying to compete with products which are significantly under invested in. We aren't spending enough to make top notch products and we are trying to do too much with too little. On top of that most engineering effort are done 2 or more times across the company.
It seems Guru is going to force us to focus on a narrower product vision(the same one he has had at other companies). But I am not counting on that goal being carried out in a friendly or effective way.
Ya, this failure is not about greed. The C-suite misjudged their bets and demurred on disruptive threats. They are still enthralled by GEO and still not convinced by market shifts. It going to be an agonizing struggle to the bottom.
What a bunch of incompetent clowns at all levels of leadership. Pathetic.
Cheers! Pour one out for the homies we met along the way.
I wouldn't say greedy. They just underestimated the viability of LEOs.
