Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

250+ to be subject to layoff on the IT Service desk by Q1 2024

Starting now, Lowe's will begin transitioning all of their level 1 help desk support to India. This means anyone you speak on the phone with at IT will be residing in India and may not be a native English speaker.

This is resulting in around 250 people (maybe more) being laid off by the end of the fiscal year,

Last year tech leadership ran a small experiment using Indian contractors for some of our SIMPLEST technical support. That experiment failed miserably resulting in tons of dissatisfaction and poor support.

I don't disparage anyone working in India for simply doing their job. Lowe's claims to be a company who cares deeply about American values and supporting veterans. Today, they chose to outsource our jobs and fire the Americans and veterans who work in IT.

As evidenced by the previous experiment's failure, this will result in a worse experience for customers and employees on a large scale.

IT at Lowe's is a joke right now. It's horrible. They released an MST app which I do all of my work through and on most days we have issues. Anything will be better than what we have now

I spend well over a $1,000 a year at Lowe’s. Granted that not that much. If this move comes to fruition, they will lose my business. Should note that I am a master at Word of Mouth advertising, both good and bad!!

Like we have an edge with grammar.

"while they prepare to use A.I."

AI companies are facing what could be very expensive legal trouble over copyright violations. ChatGPT was one of the ones mentioned as being in the crosshairs.

The outsourcing is just a dog and pony show while they prepare to use A.I. that can handle it all. Companies can subscribe to a ChatGPT plan that can automate many work functions that a general assistant on steroids can do. Deep learning technology with A.I. is already there to make the voices sound human, and you wouldn't even be able to tell.

Why pay an outsourced labor at $48/week when you can subscribe for practically pennies with A.I.?

C'mon people...... go to EEOC.gov and submit a charge against Lowes. By outsourcing your jobs, they are clearly discriminating against you for your national origin. They clearly think Indians have superior intellect in the IT world vs. that of Americans. This is discrimination. EEOC is free, you can read up on it quickly and submit a charge against Lowes for their actions. And if you obtain a lawyer and ask them to submit an EEOC charge for you, it goes even quicker but any settlement the EEOC makes on your behalf you would owe a percentage to your attorney but still, it's worth it. Protect yourselves from the injustice of Lowes.

Look on the bright side. The offshore people won't be posting on LinkedIn about how they walk their dogs at work.

Load fifty bags of mulch into a customer’s car while they sip on their mocha latte. Spend three hours with some Karen on an install just to have her cancel it after all the product arrives. Unload a thousand piece truck with only two ther associates, one that just started today. Waste an hour of your day doing “power pack down” while your department has 200 IRP’s. Do any on these things and I will feel sorry for you, otherwise shut your entitled mouths.

I had to make a hard decision on which department to cut personnel since I found that I was afraid I couldn't afford to get my 5th Bentley for the year. I thought long and hard about which area to cut, and came to the decision that the IT people can be let go. Just think about it, you all do nothing but play video games and watch movies all day. You all wouldn't even let me help the Nigerian Prince who was going to pay me millions.

I found that it would be cheaper to pay an Indian $48/week to do a better job than the thousands I paid you all. It's not like you did any real work anyway, it's not hard to press butto s on a keyboard and to turn the computer off and on to fix it. And you all did nothing to stop the RVP from leaking data to hackers.

Hopefully you all take this as a learning experience and realize that you all are wotlrthless. Honestly, if I could have, I would have done it sooner. And if I have my way, I will outsource the entire store personnel. The team in India already has an app they're working on that will allow us to staff the store similar to Uber.

God bless

I wanted to let you know that unfortunately we had to sacrifice your position due to inflation. It was getting hard affording my 10 bathroom, 12000 sq/ft home and being able to afford the membership to the yacht club, wagyu beef for my dogs, and several sports cars. Even after eliminating your positions I still had to tighten my belt and tell my wife she couldn't buy a $100000 necklace. Trust me she wasn't to pleased. But in the long run we could pay someone in Bangalore $0.10 an hour for the same job. Maybe if you all would work for free, this could have been avoided. There are 24 hours in a day, so you had 16 hours outside of this job that you can work another job daily to come up with the money to pay bills. But I must digress as I wish you much luck in your new positions in the unemployment line.

God Bless

This tracks with all of Lowe's BS about family values , inclusion ,veterans, pros ,etc. It is all subterfuge. Lowe's cares only on the surface, just enough to cash the check, and then will move on to the next "what's important now" marketing or corporate strategy. Loyalty? Forget it. Doesn't exist a Blowes anymore.
