Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

If you hate it here so much, why not apply elsewhere, interview and leave?

Genuine question : If you hate it here so much, why not vote with your feet: Apply, interview and leave to our competitors like Edwards, JNJ, Abbott or Boston?

I’m sure they might be totally unaffected with what’s going on right now by high inflation , high interest rates, GLP-1 fears and general slowdown in the economy.

So Im pretty sure they are paying $250k base, 6 months of PTOs, 100% 401(k) match, 0% deductibles to everyone. Theirs stocks might be up 100% on the year as well, so you get more ESPP.

I am with you! Why would somebody stay at a job they dislike so much? That is what is strange! sit on a website bashing the company that is paying their salary. By the way, I am not the HR police, if you don't agree with constant complainers on this website that is what they call you. If you are that miserable leave and let the people who like their job here keep theirs. Duh!

If you have been here for a while the Mission still means something to you. Even if we know ExCom uses it more cynically to get employees to follow the plan , we’re not staying for ExCom. We’re staying for patients. And i know this current crop of ExCom won’t be here forever, i will outlast them and we’ll see this place recover.

Employee 401k vesting is three years. I am kind of waiting for that as well .. but I'd be willing to take the hit if I found something good

I’m one who jumped ship. I read this site once in a while to see if the culture has changed. Anyways, I joined big pharma. The base pay is a lot higher as are bonuses, annual equity awards for all staff levels. Contributing 10% to employees 401k is the norm in pharma. The two things I miss about MDT - the people doing the actual work. I had some of the best colleagues at MDT. The other thing I miss which is somewhat laughable is the Recognize Points reward program. I do hope GM gets canned soon and MDT turns a corner for current employees sake. I enjoyed working with everyone there.

Wait, you vest at 2 years…which means walking away from MDT will cost you (likely) <$8k?

Just go my friend, don’t worry about the vesting. You can negotiate that into your new offer…I know Medtronic compensated me for my unvested portion of my previous employers 401k match, I’d assume if your moving to greener pastures that option would be available to you too

I’m not eager to jump ship now that I am getting closer to retirement. If I was younger, I’d be looking.

Hate to say it but we are paying less and now the longer you stay the more they exploit you financially. Unless you are close to retirement it’s probably best to jump ship or at least starting to update your resume. The Medtronic of the past isn’t coming back, breaks my heart.

Two words, golden handcuffs (and I don't even have direct reports).
