Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Anybody in the recent PDC receive frustrating feedback?

I received feedback about differentiators that were not listed in the job description. Every time I post, the PDC comes back with a new set of issues that seem to work against me. It seems like one needs to make friends with the in crowd to advance. What's up with that?

Paradoxically, PDC is not about feedback. I have never heard of anyone who didn't get their posted position getting feedback of any sort. It is about promoting hi-pots and relatives under the guise of a fair and impartial process.

I remember one job I really wanted, my manager told me ("off the record") 'that job is only for hi-pots passing through, you're perfect for the job but you aren't going to get it'. I had a perfunctory interview with the job owner, the discussion seemed lackadaisical and more intended to convince me I really didn't want the job. After that, nothing. Until it was announced which hi-pot was getting the job. No feedback to me, no feedback to my manager. Nothing.

At least you received feedback. In my case, zero, nada, zilch. F the PDC.

Well, at least you have a PDC. I am in HSE and we don't even post jobs. JC just picks his favorites and everyone moves on. DP and GS truly destroyed our function.

Work hard and network a lot, not kiss a- -, apply for what you think you are qualified for. Network more. Talk to the job owner. If you don’t get, try again. Don’t let these ba-tards get you down. There’s always somewhere better and there’s always somewhere worse.

Only every time I don’t get a selected, other than that…no.

PDC knows who they’re going to pick before they get into the meeting. If you don’t have a relationship with the job owner or the most persuasive person in the room, you’re not getting picked. It’s not a meritocracy.

The PDC is simply another hurdle to jump through. It’s another layer of “bureaucracy”, as it were. The existent labor laws and the litigious nature of people and ambulance chasing law firms now make companies like Chevron build layers upon layers of mechanisms and procedures to accomplish things that a mere 15 to 20 years ago would take a few hours for one or two decision makers to handle. Today we have a convuluted mess that adds delays to simple processes. God help us if a minority or protected class gets involved in the process. We now have to handle with kid gloves and take months to put through committees, HR, half dozen managers, then back through the same process again.

The PDC is responsible for making a shortlist of candidates. Ultimately, the job owner makes the decision, usually the #1 on the shortlist, but not always. Job owners often have their own preferred candidates they will try to maneuver on to the slate.

To minimize future frustration, as your PDR or the Sponsor if the job is truly open or if there is already a preferred candidate when the role is posted. If you are applying for an open job, talk to the job owner about your interest and get your name out to as many of the PDC reps as possible. If the PDC reps only know about you from your application then you are at a big disadvantage.

The system is rigged because no one on the PDC wants to challenge other PDC members because they will be deciding on their job next. There is no accountability, just lots of su-king up.

PDC is there to make it seem like career development matters for the regular worker bee. PDC is primarily setup for the favorites, HiPots and those whole are related to higher members to gain the more notable positions in a "clear and transparent" process selections. All comes down to who is in the room and who can bargain for you. Unfortunately, "clear and transparent,' is not always clear and transparent when asking for feedback from the PDR.

Welcome to the Chevron caste system. Or CCS.

The jobs are filled first with HiPots and those on the list to be recognized (they know someone). If you are posting for a job that is not considered stepping stone or high visibility then your chances of getting place are much higher.

If you don’t have any friends on the PDC, you don’t stand a chance.

PDC feedback is worthless.

Basically the guy they chose they think is better. aend of story. They will then weave a tale about why you lost.
