Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

AI coming

AI is coming in Q3 of next year to be a “support function” for front line/entry level reps. The thing is advanced and has already improved accuracy from 80 to 89%. I assume if things keep going the way they are they will dismantle many front line rep positions and replace them with AI.

Too much risk to replace the people. SEC or whoever won't allow it.

What happened to the GAIN incubator? There was a SharePoint site. One of their efforts was encouraging employees to upload a proposal of sorts, not just the idea, but a mini proposal on what in the submitter’s day could benefit from AI. GAIN began as an experiment between Technology & HR and it really took off.

Each cycle, the GAIN team would pick a new project to be used as a use case. I submitted an idea and was in the running when I got laid off.

I heard the majority of the team was laid off, and am curious on what happened to the work that was underway. I hope they didn’t throw the baby out with the bath water. That would be a shame

Hahahahhaha. We just got docusign which is like 20 years old. We don’t even have things like Dropbox to email statements. There is no way AI is coming. Jonathan Craig mentioned AI helping with the Knowledge Center….what a joke…Tell me you have never used knowledge center without telling me you have never used knowledge center. Garbage in and Garbage out. There will probably be more layoffs but that will be due to company mismanagement by the EC not AI.

Schwab can't roll out AI in Q3 - look how long it took them to convert over all the TD stuff. They don't move that fast - they are just chasing rainbows

@ehf+1pWg1AJv 100% - the majority of current clients are boomers - they want to speak to a person. That is why they call - AI could be a good tool for the reps to find info quicker, but I don't see how it will replace in the near term.

Thinking of adding AI. The company can't even sunset old apps and mismanaged itself on bonds which they made up for it by laying off employees right after the TG Migration. They think they can incorporate AI...

80% or 89% is not really so much different.
If you use that on a car, how many accidents it will get
If you use that in Schwab, how many clients will be pi---d off, and leave?

It’s amazing how a company with such poor basic technology wants to dump money into AI. I thought we were managing expenses.

AI won't replace the frontline/reps it won't be able to communicate or answer all the questions that the elderly people call in to ask.

Just like Cambridge and widget and CC were going to doom the reps. Tiny and Howie can’t spell AI.

It will be fine.
