Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

COP28

Chevron (CVX) was notably absent from a pledge by 50 oil and gas producers including Exxon (XOM) announced at COP28 to cut methane emissions from their own operations to near-zero and halt flaring of natural gas by the end of the decade.

We got to stay focused on what’s important: More money for Mikey!

Climate Change is a hoax, it’s a con game. The elite concocted this lie. The best thing you can do to make it go away is to laugh at anyone who tries to sell you on this boatload of hogwash.

@3nej - minimal flaring of methane at Gorgon and Wheatstone as we turn it into LNG! Instead we do release CO2 at Gorgon around 30kg/s so as not to constrain LNG production, because we can’t inject all the CO2 from the reservoir due to increasing induced seismicity. We are green when it suits but that’s a distant second to revenue.

@2ldl: So what's the "greater organizational perspective" driver that made us demure from supporting the pledge to lower methane emissions from our facilities: Methane flaring from offshore assets like Gorgon and Wheatstone, or just who gives a sh-t bad plumbing in the Permian?

As employees of Chevron, we collectively embody the company's values and direction. Our association with the organization underscores a shared commitment to its objectives and operational ethos. It is imperative to acknowledge that the decisions we make collectively contribute to shaping Chevron's reputation and alignment with the strategic vision articulated by MW.

I understand and appreciate the personal benefits that have resulted from our association with Chevron, such as providing quality education for our children and enabling a comfortable lifestyle for our families. These factors undoubtedly underscore the significance of our work and the positive impact it has had on our lives.

In considering any decisions that may impact our financial landscape, it is essential to maintain a balance between individual concerns and the greater organizational perspective. I encourage us to engage in an open dialogue to explore alternatives and ensure that any decisions made are well-aligned with both our individual interests and Chevron's overarching objectives.

Good for Chevron they chose to be absent from COP28 pledge to make cuts methane emissions. Saying nothing sometimes is saying everything. It’s about time Chevron developed a spine. Congratulations.

The sad fact is that methane leaks result in natural gas (particularly frac gas, given the extent of leaky infrastructure) being worse for the climate than burning coal.

This is all nonsense. I wouldn't sign on for this either. CVX has better things to focus on.

Reducing flaring to purge and pilots is a worthy goal. Net zero emissions is a childish ambition.
