Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Headcount Reduction December 13-15

I work in HR and had meetings this week about the upcoming headcount reduction. I got hired to help people not executives, I honestly don't care about the NDA they made me sign.

Here is what I can tell you without giving away my identity.

  • Managers scoring low on GLINT will be targeted first. Newly promoted shift leads will take their place. Shift leads will be promoted from within and evaluated based on skill level and DISC scores. This addresses the need for held back promotions over the last 3 years and gives growing opportunities for job levels 1-3
  • Legal department is second on the list. Currently we have an overstaff on lawyers with not enough IP, Safety, and checks and balances to assign to. We are looking to reduce the legal team by 12%
  • Engineers currently not working on self guided projects or patents or taking part of program phoenix are third on the list. Currently too many engineers are not fulfilling their on-site duties and delegating unguided tasks to job levels 1-2

I can disclose more next week as the finalizations are made. I will make a chat where you can message me your employee # and I can check if you are on the list or not. Good luck everyone

Unfortunately people like that are stuck in self preservation mode, as long as it's not them they are good. It's short-sighted but a common mentality at GF. Only a matter of time, before the place is sold or fails.

Almost all 20 plus year employees.
Get a life and think of fellow employees.
Maybe you will be cut two weeks before Christmas. Wait a sec these owners hate Christmas.

Everyone at GF is an adult, at this point everyone should know how the GF system works. Adapt or leave, unfortunately those are the only options.

Wow it is only 90 days? I thought it was one year exemption before being eligible for layoffs. At least it was a few years back. I really haven’t dealt with it or work with any new hires in a few years. They are a rare breed to see in the wild!

Dang, y’all have new hires?

We’ve had I think one new hire in the last 6 months… oh look their desk is empty.

Anyone else’s MSM in an unusually quiet and cold mood this Monday?

New hires being let go before 90 days is horrible, not sure GF's reputation can get any worse at this point. The Senior Leadership Team (SLT) needs to be replaced immediately, they are running the company into the ground while the rest of us work our a$$es off to try and keep the company afloat. Anyone hear any other news about layoffs currently?

This has been going on for awhile/years in past layoff cycles. We had one fresh grad move all the way here to be let go after a month. it should speak more badly about our management and leadership and how poorly they plan. Why hire someone just to let them go. It also costs money/resources/time to hire find them and then hire and train them… managers and leadership should be held way more accountable for their actions and mistakes then they are at GF. They deserve lot more of the blame for the state we are in then they are getting.

They’re only doing this so they can afford your olive oil this year.

Willing to bet 500$ this is false. The attrition is too high already at least at Malta.

However... Burlington I could definitely see this as potential.

Legal: yeah cut some of them they all work from home anyways. Speaking of which can you confirm over 300+ S.xual Abuse cases this year?

Engineers not on projects: So the new people? Every area is practically bare on engineers and the teams are getting burnt out.

Anyone on a pip will get 90 days, or gtfo. And from the manager alignments the past few weeks every department has to have a 3 to 5% insufficient target. Those people are put on pips.
^^this is what will actually happen.

Moral is extremely low and ineffective managers are being shuffled around but the really awful highest levels are staying put. People with 12+ years, the really committed experienced engineers, are quitting. Not a good sign. Update your resume' and start the job hunt. Be proactive in your career.

Fun fact, the Phoenix program was also the counterinsurgency campaign in South Vietnam which tortured and ki-led tens of thousands of suspected VC.
