Thread regarding 3M layoffs

As the ship starts to take on water

I was offered a job with SpinCo about two months ago. It would have been working for someone that I really detest. Having just emerged from a 2-year abusive boss relationship last May, it really felt far too soon to go into another one of these. Seems like anymore at 3M, and maybe most corporations, it is more the norm at this point to have beyond toxic senior leadership. So, I turned the role down and kind of instantly felt like I had made a mistake. I then found out that I am apparently on a very short list of people that the C Suite can block - so I guess more or less I couldn't have taken the job anyway. My now boss at SinkingShipCo I actually really adore and my current role is one of the better sh-t shows I have had the honor of leading in my 22 years. My college kids' tuition is mostly covered by their 529 plans, my partner knows we may have to jump ship and sell the house at a moment's notice, my resume is continually updated and tweaked. Only maybe 2% of my portfolio remains in SinkingShipCo stock. I lost too many tens of thousands in stock options and have tried to not dwell on that. Yet - I still just sit here, holding on to this ship for some reason that bewilders me. I guess I can't pass up this chance to have front row tickets to watch a 120+ year old company fail. The popcorn is getting stale as this is dragging on, and endlessly so, but I do realize I am consciously making this choice. So to those of you who are also knowingly staying at SinkingShipCo - cheers to us. The shiny new toy of Solventum (really?) does look so enticing, doesn't it? Continuing to play this fiddle and ride this thing down - but I do realize that is what I am doing. And I think maybe I am at peace with it. For now ...

You speak for many, all conversations are about the dismal leadership and failed initiatives. If the "good" SVP's have left, it is for good reason. Now that SinkingShipCo is largely being outsourced to Kearny, JLL and others, find yourself a life jacket and jump in to a better life outside of this mess.
