How does Lenovo management not understand the optics of having an 8AM mandatory all hands after a holiday weekend to show a US representative how much employees love Lenovo and how "Chinese" they aren't. This is the most Chinese thing you could probably do.

My last Lenovo manager (came over from IBM), told everyone on my team to be at our stations at 9:00AM, "in case someone high up stops by, so there won't be so many empty desks". The favorite employee NEVER showed up before 10:00AM. So what time does the manager stop by to check on us? 10:00AM of course!!!
It doesn’t really matter anyway. I was there at 8:00am everyday, even on Fridays and still was laid off. The company culture is a result of poor management that lets go off the real workers and enables the favored ones. In my opinion, they all get what they deserve.
The employee culture bothers me truthfully. The new workday seems to be 930 to 330. So we had to be on for 8am for the first time in forever. Boo hoo. Would you rather be in an unemployment line or at a food bank? Look around people, lots of competition for jobs right now. I'd rather be employed starting at 8am rather than another situation.
Yep. Lenovo 'visibility' CULTure strikes again. If you're seen and more to the point, known and popular, you must be a good asset to the company. Self promotion is more important that doing actual work. Company is totally backwards.
I was told strongly encouraged. I originally had today off to recover from Thanksgiving travel. When I reminded my director that I was taking today off, he said I strongly encourage you to not take today off and come in. Which he followed up with the numbers are bad, they'll be looking for people to cut.
Mandatory? My manager seems it was strongly suggested we attend.
Seems like a great company to me
And here's the trolling tone-deaf and clueless post from management.
Seems like a great company to me
To be fair, if they are blind it makes it harder to see the optics.
Yes. And deaf too.
But not to worry all that AI investment will automate future all hands right after it figures out how to automate physical humanoids to be physically present at events to emulate retro 70s and 80s work environment. All Q n A will be answered by chatgpt.
