Is there a hiring freeze at 3M? We've been begging for several positions to be filled for nearly a year with no luck. I can't believe it's taking that long to find adequate candidates. Our manager always has one excuse or another for why those positions are still vacant. What is the real reason?

Same sh-t year after year. And after a full year, they say that the function still operated fine without that position, so there is no need to approve the headcount.
My group has been able to fill requisitions pretty much on par with historical (that is, can select a candidate in as quick as a week or as long as a couple months lol) but no I do not believe there is a hiring freeze, at least company-wide
"no adequate candidates" is not entirely accurate. They just don't intend to hire.
Adequate candidates? Why not recall some of the already trained, previously laid off people if the positions are actually open? Oh, wait ...
Experienced the same thing, then only had approvals if using GSC. Common statement was always ‘attrition’. I think it is GSC or CW these days for cost cutting and fear or anticipation of further declines. Follow 3M actions, not words - pretty sure it is being gutted on purpose for spins, divestitures and eventual bankruptcy of whatever is left. If you have options, leaving might be beneficial - execs have been leaving, which feels worrisome
I am hearing that loyal 3M customers are re-thinking their future with 3M remainco, they are seeing the bad press, the stock price, the public issues of redundancies etc. If I was a person looking for a new role, with all this in the public domain, not sure I would accept an offer from 3M.
My gut says costs cuts to make the company look good to investors and shore up the 4Q balance sheet to make yearend look somewhat respectable. The corporate capital vultures are swirling overhead and M&M are ready with their golden parachutes.
