Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Was Stuart Riley fired?

Stuart Riley is Co-CIO , we just received an email that he is leaving the firm.
Did he just leave or was he fired?

The only driver to drop in another co-cio is because the wrong one left.

A co-head arrangement is almost universally one to kick the can on the decision down the road/see who rises to the top.

Stuart leaving and being immediately replaced says it all - the wrong co-head left.

As others here said, Stuart Riley is now at HSBC. Please note that HSBC sold All of its bank branches and several businesses. The bank branches were sold to Citizens Bank. HSBC had so many regulatory, compliance and criminal violations, suspensions and sanctions imposed on it by every major regulatory worldwide including but Not limited to the OCC, Federal Reserve Bank, SEC, etc.. HSBC is now a ghost doppelganger of its once self when it was a real bank. Citi is on the same train wreck path.

Stuart was not let go, he had a better opportunity elsewhere. He's too good to be let go. I agree it is Mike W who is the problem, he should be the one going, instead we are losing the best ones who could have led us out of this mess. They are getting fed up and moving out.

Apparently Stuart pushed to get the news of his departure broken before the main layoffs started. He didn't want there to be a perception that he was cut by surprise like so many of the others.

It's true what someone else here said about HSBC. Stuart and his buddies may have gotten better golden parachutes at HSBC but HSBC is replete with Regulatory, Criminal and Compliance violations, fees and sanctions going back decades. At least most of Citi's problems and F-Ups are not Criminal or intentional. At HSBC, the Sh!tShow goes all the way up the ranks even to the Department General Counsels/attorneys and C-Suite Officers. Sort of like when DEA Agents become corrupted, steal money from the Drvg Dealers and/or are in collusion with the DDs.

Any views on Stuart Riley's thoughts around public cloud adoption for IT Services, vs on-prem or 'where cloud really makes sense..'

Internal mail at HSBC says he is going there as their CIO steps down.
As for HSBC being where all the good folk are going…, I’m afraid you’ve got that one wrong. Glorious shitshow there too

I don't think he was fired. I think he sees the direction things are going and decided to move on.

All the good people will leave as fast as they can. Economy is booming back. Other companies will win at Citi’s expense. Unless there is a huge leadership shakeup, Citi is doomed for foreseable future. Current leadership is lacking vision.

Stuart leaving is huge shake up for us IT folks. He was really good and not one of the bad ones in my opinion. I may have to look at HSBC if that's where the good folks are going. I bet all his direct reports are like WTF (especially ISG)!!

Wondering if true strategy is to crash the stock price so that the bank is taken over by competitor.

They should have learned a long time ago that co-heads don't work at any level. Flashbacks of the Craig Bright and JVU days for CTI... 2016-2018 was just a revolving door for those co-head roles under Greenbaum.

The whole collapsing of all technology teams under the "Co-CIO" structure is ridiculous to begin with. All they had to do was just move Stuart and Shadman under Whitaker and call it a day, leaving GFT and CTI alone.

No idea. But instead of leaving just Shadman, they replaced Stuart still having 2 co- CIO?? Jane has said they are getting rid of co heads, so why did they replace Stuart? Is Shadman still getting pushed out too?
