Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Fellow August 2022 SIRPs

How are you all holding up?

I applied to well over one hundred jobs and came a way with a handful of solid opportunities. Eventually settling on one. Still automotive (pros and cons to that). But I can say firsthand that Ford was the worst OEM that I've worked at.

I hope you're all doing well! And also everyone else who was let go since August 2022. Hang in there!!

33 yrs and perfect timing to retire anyway. Ford was fun till Hackett and Farley created this mess. All the wheel spinning to fix quality while increasing the complexity of our products is really hurting ford now. I heard it the norm to either shut off features that outright don’t work an let others live with errors for further customer complaints.

In a way ford has been going out of business since the late 50s

I was planning to retire at the end of 2023, so getting SIRP'ed in August of 2022 just pulled my retirement ahead a bit. My investment advisor said that Ford did me a favor in timing my departure. I miss the people I worked with at Ford, but I don't miss the work assignment I had in the final year or so of my career.

August 22 here as well. Landed with another company. All I can say is all companies have their pros and cons. Ford wasn't the best place I worked, nor the worst. Just trying to survive a few more years until retirement.

I was 62 and was able to retire from my test engineering position at Ford where I worked for 16 years. Since then though I have been contacted via LinkedIn by recruiters almost monthly. There seems to be a lot of opportunities in this area if you have the skill sets.

There's always the defense industry. However much of a sh-t show it may be, it's there and people seem to be jonesing for a fight right now. After all, when the economy is in the toilet, they typically try a few things to distract and war is one of the redirection tactics.

Wish I got cut 8/22 like you.
I've escaped about 10 rounds of cuts over the years.

It's difficult to find another job if you worked for Ford and you are over 55. You have ruined your career and now you have not talent. Doing Excel spreadsheets and ppt all of these years getting you no where. Best of luck you all.

Still out of work. However, looks like I may be able to retire due to the high interest rates.

My SIRP departure from Ford turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I am so much happier now. I should have left a long time ago on my own. Learn from my mistake and look around. :0)

Glad you were able to find a better opportunity. I was caught in the June 2023 layoffs. Still have not found a job.

All Aug 2022 coworkers who got let go found jobs. Many at GM and Chrysler. Others at Tier one suppliers. All said their new jobs are less stress. I never looked around due to heath issues but I had many suppliers and OEMs contacting me. May start a job search soon. Hope all are well
