I hope Medtronic HR and Medtronic board members read this thread and get honest feedback from MDT employees.

The stock price reflected how this company is run. From IT perspective, I have never seen a company ran IT like this. In four years , they laid off knowledgeable senior IT folks every six months to save tiny Pennie’s. Why ? Because HR and sr directors who made these decisions have no clues of how these application systems ran. The $ wasted is outweighing the small savings outsourcing to India.

How could Indian folks gain all these institutional knowledge if they are not recorded? How could they get these if you lay off senior IT folks and cut off their access in a day? Who made these terrible decisions?

Shareholders in Medtronic should really demand the answers, because IT maintains all patient and quality system info for audit, any of these failure will be a black swan events for Medtronic stock price.

Systems documentations were not properly stored nor updated in IT, why? Because they fired entire team or they fired senior IT technical people on a single day, then cut off access. No proper handoff at all.

A lot of newly hired Sr IT directors , directors from outside companies have no clue of all the application systems, they just follow CIO’s order to outsource to India. There are tremendous institutional knowledge that can not be instantly outsourced, these knowledge take years to build up.

The current CIO is the exactly same as the one just got fired, she does not realized healthy care IT is not a commodity business your can simply arbitrage globally based on price. Healthcare IT is also different than electronics or retail IT.

How terrible Medtronic IT runs. The blame should be squarely place on CIO and CEO. They let go the most experienced technical folks try to save tiny tiny cost( end up waste more), they cut the access without proper transition.

OMG, how much time will the Indian folks need to learn and figure out without the proper documentation? Shareholders are paying the price for this mistake.

Sad for all the Medtronic investors, IT had a lot of talent, but the top are really mediocre, I am sorry to say.

It su-ks, but we are missing the core point here of why it’s only Medtronic that is suffering so badly and not other medical device company.. CEO can’t force changes, it has to come from bottom up. We have so many freeloaders in mid management R&D in CVG which has only come up with like 3 products in last 10 years, how do you expect no layoffs and poor stock price when we don’t innovate to the level we should? How is it Geoff fault when all the current disasters like navion, RDN, diabetes etc started under Omar? We don’t even know the basics on how to do trial design , and how to differentiate ourselves. An unknown company was able to get the RDN approval when we failed lol.

Why aren’t CVG design and quality teams aren’t ever fired or held responsible?
IT and other departments would be still here if we had innovated and executed well.

When you don’t innovate and depend on past laurels, it puts pressure on sales and bottom line the stock price.

Outsourcing IT isn’t a viable long term strategy. This is just GM and ExCom trying to improve the books. Hopefully this will be a failed, last ditch effort before GM is ousted. In the meantime, lots of institutional knowledge will be walking out the door. I am so tired of our leaders using “the mission” as part of their justification. How can you talk about Tenant 5 all the while RIF’ing staff and actively moving jobs out of the US in search of cheaper options? How can you “engineer the extraordinary” while shopping for the lowest cost option with companies that claim to have done this all before. If Medtronic was truly trying to innovate they wouldn’t be using providers that can take our knowledge over to a competitor with a new engagement. Medtronic isn’t really an innovative company anymore. They are a large company that uses their purchasing power to purchase the companies that really are innovative. Problem is these companies and whatever value they provide gets destroyed when they are brought in to the corporate gridlock.

My team has changed so much lately, I didn't know which one I was on. I was doing work for the Oshpi work stream and It was getting so awful to work there, I am glad I was laid off.

Yes.
2 mo garden leave and then 2 wks per year service for severance pay.

MDT IT is so terribly managed. Layoff every 6 mo for last 5 years. They layoff all the people with most IT knowledge.

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear that. That is rough. I foresee outsourcing IT will come back and bite Medtronic in the behind.

I'm aware of at least 25-30 IT layoffs, likely more than that... a few directors, many program managers, some other contributors.

A continued, ongoing push toward further outsourcing/offshoring, similar to last month's push of the support desk functions.

What’s the point of saying you know some people who got laid off or meetings without providing some update.

Maybe these were help desk layoffs which we already knew were coming. Kind of useless information to be honest if you said you know some people who got laid off but won’t really say anything. The company is 85,000 people. Anyone can post any rumor that people are being let go, what’s the point.

Dude - if people don’t want to reveal their specific areas because they are unsure if they are impacted … relax. Don’t make this horribly handled layoff worse

Man, come on share some details of what teams are being hit. Kind of useless to say someone is being let go without telling us what group/function.
