I'm too scared and I'm a big enough man to admit it. But if I get laid off, it will be like getting my prison sentence commuted. So now, instead of dreading layoffs, I'm low-key hoping we have another round as soon as possible.

Don't wait around too long. Be proactive. The economy could take a turn for the worse and then opportunities will be limited. Then what are you gonna do if you get the axe from 3M? Better to go out on your own terms with a plan you are comfortable with than be forced to accept something you don't really want just to put food on the table.
What are you going to do if there is another round of layoffs and you DON'T get picked?
Last thing I remember
I was running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
"Relax," said the night man
"We are programmed to receive
You can check out any time you like
But you can never leave"
Life is too short to live in a job where you are not fulfilled.
I'm never fulfilled by my job -- I only work because I want money, and the idea that I will find personal fulfillment in servitude is ridiculous to me.
At best, my company sees value in whatever it is I do, and I enjoy the challenge of my job.
In reality, it's 70% tedium punctuated by occasional projects that are slightly more interesting.
I think it’s pretty messed up to hope for other people to lose their jobs just so you can be forced into an outcome you’re too scared to create on your own. Just leave on your own terms and stop HOPING for others to suffer.
OP,
Please be actively looking for jobs. It will be tough to finally leave 3M, but I promise you it will be better. I can say my hands literally shook when I signed my resignation letter. I can also say it was one of the best days of my life. My family and friends have actually noticed how much better mentally I have been since I left. Until you go somewhere else you won't fully understand what a toxic wasteland 3M has become under current leadership.
The dream that was 3M is dead. McNerney infected the company with the disease and Roman will be in charge when the company finally dies.
Don't bury your head in the sand. There is life outside of the company, and you might find it is actually a breath of fresh air, where you are treated properly. Be brave, be prepared, be proactive.
I have 25 years service here and I am waiting for the severance package. Plan to retire after this.
Too much mistreatment and I just aspire to a quick release now after 35 years, 5 reduction plans, a x4 charge and my salary almost below the minimum of my coefficient.

I agree with the other poster, be proactive. Get your CV up to date, update your LinkedIn and connect with some recruiters in your field.
Good Luck.
Even if you are hoping for a layoff, you need to be prepared. Have your resume up-to-date. Look around and interview just for practice, if nothing else. It sounds like you're just waiting (hoping?) for the axe to fall. Best to be proactive!
