Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

There are other reasons for this decline

Every medical device company along with consumer staples (Pepsi, Coke) is down 20% in the last 3 months, this is not just Medtronic, reason for that is the prevalent use of GLP1 or-l therapies by Novonordisk and Eli Lilly which potentially reduces weight by 25% for obese people, hence the theory that people won’t need medical devices as much as they do now. It’s going to be approved by FDA soon, so Wall Street is getting ahead of it. This has nothing to do with Geoff

Other reason why we are declining is the poor “engineering” and “execution” Just look at disaster RDN where we spent billions and are gearing towards a product which may not even be approved by FDA, we don’t even do trail design properly. Another example is the disaster Navion recall which was again poor design and quality problems. Why aren’t CVG the design and quality teams held accountable for this ? That’s the real reason why our pipeline is choked and we are doing poorly.

All these problems started way before Geoff was even CEOs.

I can confirm that unrealistic deadlines, lack of people are huge factors negatively impacting engineering. I did my best to get my product as reliable as I could in my position but in the end, engineering management cares more about meeting an artificial deadline than long term quality. There is no doubt, this is across the board. I have only worked for one med device company that seriously cares about diversity. I have worked for everything from Startups to Medtronic.

I don't think I have ever seen a stupider post before

Apparently, according to this genius OP, the only people who need medical devices are obese people

You solve obesity and all the medical devices companies might as well shut down. Nice analysis!!! This guy is definitely on Geoff's leadership team. What a joker

MDT stock returns vs other medical device companies since GM became CEO:
vs. ABT -30% (remember ABT was ki-led after Covid)
vs. Med Device ETF -40%
vs. DJAvg -76%
vs. BSX -77%
vs. SYK -90%
vs. S&P -92%!!!
I am sick of the excuses from GM and this management team - the most arrogant, ignorant, and clueless group to ever lead a F500 company. BOD WAKE THE F UP!!!

Yes blame engineering...all the engineers that I talked to said the tight deadlines and limited resources are causing the quality mess. GM's message of being nimble, aka do more with less, is ki-ling us.
