I was told that those in the Omaha office were told to go home due to a gas leak. Can someone confirm? Is there anything else to consider in this?

You were wrong. Schwab has money. This was coordinated with the local utility company for a hefty under the table exchange.
The MD was wrong. It is on the Omaha subreddit and the local news
Also, it doesn't make any sense to let people come into the office if you're trying to avoid security concerns. They would be better off hiding behind a restack and having people WFH those days.
Can confirm my MD said this was a trial run to see how fast they can evacuate and have the workforce WFH for the remainder of the day. They are planning on doing the same thing on layoff day so they can enact the reduction in force entirely remotely. There is high concern the layoffs will cause a security risk.
It was a city-wide issue with utilities company. You can Google it. Settle down.
JFC. IT’S A GAS LEAK. WHY READ INTO THAT?’ I know we’re all on edge, but calm the he-l down
It's in the Omaha location teams channel that this happened.
No conspiracy. Even some nearby schools were sent home for the same gas smell. It turned out every thing is fine.
Funny how the EC has turned a simple layoff into a conspiracy worthy of the X-Files. Now people suspect everything, even a gas leak, which Conspiracy theorists think is government coverup for UFO crash.
There was an email sent out a few hours ago about the smell of gas. The fire department said it was gas that's being vented by a local utility company.
They sent people home for the smell and to be cautious.
Yes there was a recommended evacuation due to a gas leak
Lying about a gas leak makes no sense. If it was because of layoffs, they want you onsite.
Doubtful they’d lie about a gas leak. They would just be sent home without an explanation if it was related to layoffs
