SMIC 7 nm is last nail in GF’s coffin

With compute and mobile in slowdown, GF is already dying. Recent SMIC news is last nail in GF’s coffin. It was hard for GF to survive after it’s decision to pivot.

A simple company product search shows TI and ON so make CMOS devices; just not to the level of SMIC, Global, etc. (differentiated technologies). I wonder what other company is doing that….. pssst, it is GF!

@1eqv not sure of your post since it makes no sense. First off 7nm wouldn't impact ON or TI not even Micron because SMIC 7nm is CMOS not memory. Now pay attention grasshopper and I'll tell you what SMIC 7nm does compete with. It competes with 12nm Malta loading, it competes with 22FDX DRS and future ST/GF France Fab 22FDX loading. It might not be a nail in the coffin but it is a more advanced node at a cheap foundry like SMIC who will take customers from GF out of DRS and Malta fabs. The market at 12nm and larger nodes will continue to shrink as customers move beyond 12nm into 7nm and GF is left behind with their most profitable fabs having loading issues.

Yeah, because ON, TI, Micron, etc are so doomed because SMIC has 7 nm…. 🤡
