Or is it just something short like "Sorry, you are laid off??

No, wasn't as compassionate as that. No words of inspiration or wisdom. HR seemed more concerned than my manager - who appeared to enjoy the experience.
Mine was 10 minutes, they informed my with the decision, I said well great, let's talk money then hahahaha
they offered my 6 months salary I accepted signed the papers and went on with my life
Mine was a few years ago. Fortunately over the phone. Quick and painless. I had a big smile on my face since they were giving me a decent package, which is what I wanted all along. Played a game of chicken with mgt for about a year. To be honest, I was half asleep when I got the call (9am....lol). Many of us are lucky to not have had to come into the office, sit at your cube/desk and then be told to pack up, no goodbyes...and have security make you do the perp walk out of the building. That's the old school way it was done 10+ years ago. Just brutal.
Ditto. Short and painless. Except my manager was crying, which was unprofessional of her. A sinking ship...
It's short and to the point. The calls are 15-30 minutes.
Mine was short. Depends on how many questions the laid off person asks. Most of the talking was done by the HR person.
