So, our director fully admits there will be reductions, didn’t give an inkling as to how people were selected, but mentioned that remote wasn’t a factor. A counterpart on another comms team says that those not tied to a hub can all but bet they are gone. Anybody else in comms have a different story?

Is this org safe?
Our director said WFH was the biggest factor, especially for support roles that do not travel/aren’t tied to an area.
Needing an "EVP" for corporate communications...shows exactly how bloated and wrong the company is. Since you have an "EVP", you will need to have more executives reporting to her. At a company like Tesla they wont even have a Senior Manager level for that Bullsh-t.
Found someone claiming below her is org is smaller than other EVPs to be hilarious.
WFH is not the biggest deciding factor. It really comes down to building the strongest team left standing after cuts. There are a lot of strong WFH employees who have lower salaries compared to someone tied to HQ. When looking at building the best team, a stronger remote employee with a lower salary will stay after cuts.
WFH didn't appear to play any role in the decisions that dramatically affected Engineering. Operations was hit very hard. Regulatory was hit very hard. This year, it seems almost all senior leadership from Directors up to just below the CEO all resigned in our organization. I wish I knew what they knew.
Can't speak to Comms, but the cuts in my department were mostly in office people. Most of the WFH stayed, so at this time, I don't believe it's a factor.
Your coworker is probably right and I agree, not that you have to be special to be remote, but you have to have some kind of alliance here. If you’re not in Bellevue, your job can certainly be done by someone in Bellevue. I also think Janice’s days are numbered, her role could easily be rolled to another SLT member or not a part of SLT at all.
Many in our consumer group were let go EXCEPT an employee that has been remote for 10+years. 4 hours from the nearest HQ.
Tara has lost a lot on her team lately, just by people leaving voluntary. I think that with Clint leaving, all of corp comms is ripe for a huge reorg. I think everyone is expecting that. How much, is the big question. Who will the new leaders be? I do think they want everyone in Bellevue. Why else do we sit one floor under the SLT. That's who we serve. You'd have to be really special to be remote. Not that we don't have some very special remote people. My hope is that the cuts are not large, based on how many have left already and Janice's org is so much smaller than other EVP's.
