The Real Story

Nielsen Is Shrinking
By AdExchanger

Thursday, September 7th, 2023 – 12:03 am

The latest layoffs are likely related to Nielsen’s acquisition by a private equity consortium last year. Private equity is known to squeeze ad tech companies for as much cash and profit as possible by shaving them down to their core business and nixing just about everything else. In Nielsen’s case, the priority now is Nielsen ONE, its cross-media measurement platform.

Sources with knowledge on the matter say this round of layoffs could also produce as much as $200 million in annual savings to help offset an outstanding $10 billion in acquisition-related debt.

Either way, Nielsen is under a ton of pressure to become profitable despite intense competition in the TV currency space.

Just celebrated 9 years and got let go yesterday. Tech Specialist. As far as I know myself and 3 others out of a team of 14. Makes no sense, we do so many installations remotely saving the company a lot of money. Today I woke up feeling liberated , I know we will succeed in finding a place where we will be paid better and appreciated more, good luck everyone

Cuts have started in Australia...

At least one Ad-Intel role has been cut already. Rumours of double-digit cuts in that department....

Wow, cr-p is hitting the fan when you read about sales/client side people getting the ax!!!! They are literally the money makers for the company, as was I back in my day. Good lord, even Ad Intel? That was a super high margin biz in the old days. And firing local ratings sales peeps? Dang, those contracts don't "sell" themselves like they used to I guess. Listen up folks, you will look back on this day with glee. Trust me. The day to day stress that can ki-l you from working a job in which you're likely terribly underpaid is not good for your health. There are a million other companies and jobs and industries out there. Ask anyone who is old school Nielsen (I was) how great a place it was 20 yrs ago vs now! Dang, even 10yrs ago maybe. Don't stress, go relax, get another job, feed your family. Nielsen is not life defining.

I joined the company because I thought of stability and a proud name Id be excited to be apart of and in almost fifteen months I saw two layoffs and just was cut by the second one. The last five months was a nightmare, pretty much working as a contractor without leadership and a boss that didn’t hire me and had no lack of expressing his biased opinions about what he thought I could or couldnt do from the first couple of meetings we had. Sad to have gone through such a cr-p shoot. Let go today. Mid-Market Sales US

I got let go as well as another client response team member (that's 2 out of 4 in the US team). We were Ad Intel International. The two that were spared have the least tenure.

My wife has been with the company for over 10 years. One of the most hard-working people I know. Very UNDER PAID compared to the other people in her area of work. Always volunteered for work and got laid off this morning. This company is going down the drain. Seems like RIs are safe but hitting mostly management.

Re: Im interested if the PRS team will get laid off...

So far TL's are being laid off (I believe at least 3 but only 1 confirmed so far), no word of PRS's or PM's but it seems a TAM PM may have been let go as well. It seems so far like mostly management type roles for us.
