Quality on all domestics have dropped as buyers have to scrounge around for the lowest cost manufacturers with more intensity that many offshore companies. Japanese and S Korea get some subsidies for workers and are heavy on temp workers on the line in their native countries which helps their overall balance sheet, Europeans similar but not as slick - but lots of worker subsidies. So competing from the US solely has always been challenging. Probably the biggest reason to try to bring in Chinese Lincolns etc. I don't think that will work worth a tinker's d-mn but I see the detached from reality C-suite thinking.
I still buy Ford, I know I could probably do better in life cycle cost with an import, but my tortured logic is if we don't want to become the UK (who lost their car and for the most part motorcycle business) we need to support our US factories. Yeah, some would say I'm a su---r - but that's what I believe in!
