Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

How many employees does currently Cisco have?

Yahoo finance normally has this information but it is currently blank for Cisco. Macrotrends.net shows a major drop in 2022 but the number seems too low: 26,000. Stockanalysis.com says 83,300 which seems more likely. I didn't find the information in the latest 10Q either.

The overall employee number increases but consider the headcount in San Jose with so many buildings sold off.

If the world produced and consumed equally the US would only host a bit over 4% of the employees.

The US was a world leader because the government spent big bucks on R&D and making sure companies and universities had access to compute power that cost an arm and leg. Today you can get a Raspberry Pi with all the trimmings for about $200 which means much of the world now has access to compute power to train up on tasks which likely represent more than 90% of what needs to be done in software, and the Internet provides some great training material.

This means a kid in a poor country with minimal access to power and WiFi who has a real passion has to option to grow to be more useful than a 50 year old US person who made the same mistakes for 25 years independent of how you'd have to pay either. Scrum making everything 1-2 day junior high school class assignments limits the ability of people to deal with larger problems further reducing US competitiveness. The shift is inevitable.

The 10K is the most definitive doc. Dated July 29, 2023 -> Employees = 84,900.
Also mentions 26,000 employees in Sales and Marketing.

"employees" is not the same as workers. Cisco relies heavily on red badges now. Just look at the directory, they're called NON-Employees these days, because calling them pond sc-m isn't acceptable. Yet.
