Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

Motivated without opportunity?

For those of us left, and not in Houston, are you feeling motivated to go above and beyond if our growth is going to stop short now based on our location?

CCI doesn't own the land for all those towers. Many of them are on leased land. It's why the company is in debt for over 22 billion and climbing. They are currently paying out 145% of their incoming revenue in dividends meaning they have more money going out than they are making. They are living on their stock value which has tanked. The stock has to be worth $160 per share per financial analysts for the company to break even.

That's how...

How on earth can you fu-k up a company this badly with 45,000 towers on the balance sheet printing money every month?!

That only works if you're new. Most people were hired pre covid

Check your hire contracts. Mine and multiple others list 3 days in office as the requirement. Director told us to follow our contract and only spend 3 days in the office. We have to be given a new contract to make it 4 days.

It also lists work "availability" hours of 9 am to 2 pm in my time zone.

Almost the whole office has been on a 3 day still and several leave just after 2. There have only been 3 people that have stayed longer, but they stayed prior to the change so they aren't really doing anything different.

First day back on a Monday for that d-mb 4 day work week and it’s obvious that no one gives a sh* about this company anymore. Low moral, anger and depressed employees. I wonder what type of “fake” motivation EMT will be saying during the company conversation coming up LOL

The board of directors and executives have a fiduciary responsibility to the shareholders. It's never been about the employees that's why the 3Bs and Purple are complete nonsense.

This article helps explain the current RIF and why another one will be coming. Crown Castle is in debt. They are in the hole and not making enough money, which is expected for the next 2 years. They will be forced to do another RIF by the end of 2024 if they can't turn the revenue around or be forced to not pay dividends. We know which they will choose to cut for they are about the investors, not the employees. The investor groups are who own crown, not Crown. The board's goal is to pay the investors their dividends. It's also the goal of JB.

Read the last few paragraphs where the article states the company can't keep up with the dividend payouts. The company has already met the crossroads. It's why we just had this RIF, which wasn't a large enough cut.

Southpointe willclose as the leases dry up anyway. Might as well plan to move to Houston or look for another job. There are quite a few around that area including competitors that pay better.

Everyone is just going through the motions in southpointe. It feels like the campus is on life support.

growth opportunities are a purple myth

Before the layoff, people were chained to their desks working hard. Now the people that remain are sitting in their buddy/former manager’s office shooting the breeze and complaining about everything going on.

I guess they accomplished the “us together” collaboration bull. We are all in the office together collaborating on ways to not do work here and get out of the company. Bravo!

On the company conversation, they should get a big “Mission Accomplished” banner to post behind JB.

They never had real growth opportunities. Too many people sitting in middle manager roles for a decade prevented any growth. Middle managers would only move across the company, but not up. Those upper slots were always filled by external candidates.

Work here for more than 5 years and your career could die. Several in my department saw this and volunteered for the separation. Everyone of them are already in new roles.

New recs in my dept are all concentrated out of Houston and it appears as though promotions will require relocating. There is zero chance I would ever relocate there, teammates have all said the same. So no, not me nor anyone on my team is motivated to kick @** the way we usually do. While I get that cci needs to do what is best for the organization, it feels like a giant leap backwards for employee morale - no one wants to stick around if there if there is no possibility for growth - and a huge blow to the level of skill/talent in general. I am baffled that the exec team expects to attract the level of skill that is needed to stay on top in this industry by narrowing the talent pool down to one city - and that is is going to make meeting commitments made to the investors nearly impossible. I truly don't understand the logic behind these decisions but in the end it's not my circus, not my monkey as the saying goes.

A bunch of Tower Ops Mgrs, MPLs, FOTs, and PCs were let go. Operations is a skeleton crew compared to what it used to be.

All that's cleaned up by operations during a hurricane is access road clearing, everything else is contracted out. And barely anyone from tower ops was cut and those that were are being replaced by construction managers.

“ Only corporate is at risk. Network has been running lean since 2020s layoffs.”

You can’t predict who is or isn’t safe anymore. I’m sure most of us never thought we’d see the day where they let go the people who do tower maintenance. Wonder how they cleaned up after that recent hurricane.

It will be late Q4 or early Q1 so they don't have to pay out the purple stock award.

Any idea when these layoffs might take place? Later this year or after Q1 next year?

If your workplace is hostile, you document and record everything. I mean EVERYTHING! Then you can file through labor for your protections.

I’m in network and I’m thinking of quitting because my manager is making it very a very hostile workplace. Are the layoffs near?

Im goi g with a solid no. We are doing the minimum here in Maryland and no more. To he-l with Levendos, Karen and Javier. Stock down 50% and two rounds of layoffs under them. Why would anyone do extra.

Our path to personal growth and fulfillment is open and broad as the great purple sea. why be limited by that trash dump of a city?

Absolutely not. Do what you’re paid for and nothing more.
