Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Pharmacy Payroll Cuts

What a continuing mess the Pharmacy continues to be. A few years back, we had a massive layoff of Pharmacists. They the Pandemic hit, and we couldn't get enough pharmacists or retain them. Multiple rounds of bonuses and incentives. Just this past year, increased compensation again for both pharmacists and Techs we desperately need. Now we are cutting hours of Pharmacists again. Clueless leadership, and absolutely no long term understanding or vision about how to navigate the Future in H&W

Health and Wellness is really the misguided stepchild of Walmart. The Leadership is clueless about what store operations are even like. SMH.

I'm not sure who is giving the down votes to these posts, but it sure isn't anybody who works in the pharmacy because everything that has been said is true. Walmart is considered an employer of last choice by new graduates because they've heard how pharmacists and techs are treated by this company. I work for a far superior employer and work with pharmacy interns every shift, so I know what they are saying.

Give them a raise then take it away. Cut hours too. Everything is fine though, couldn't be better for HO.

The pharmacist have too much of a workload placed on them. They are forced to counsel every patient that picks up a prescription. The real reason the company forces this is to make the pharmacist a pushy sales person! The pharmacist is required to up sell "expanded vaccinations" (vaccinations other than covid or flu) that generates about $200 per vaccination to the company. Currently the pharmacy has to get 21 expanded vaccinations per week, it is beening increased to 30 per week soon!!! The pharmacist is also required to work "Outcomes MTM." This is an MTM program that generates more revenue for Walmart. The pharmacist has to call the patient and address the clinical tasks generated by the system for that patient.
Walmart is using the pharmacist NPI to generate more revenue for the company and compensating the pharmacist less for added revenue generation.

The State Pharmacy Boards are to blame also, they allowed for to many pharmacy schools to be created!! We now have far to many pharmacists seeking employment. For example when Optum or Humana post pharmacist positions, they get almost 800 pharmacists applications.

The State Pharmacy Boards should have also worked on expanding the role and prescribing privileges of the pharmacist, but have done nothing in this matter.

Older pharmacists with higher pay have been forced out of companies like Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreen’s so he company can hire a new graduate for 30% less pay.
