Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Been there. Done that.

I’ve been laid off before (an acquisition who only wanted our clients) and went through all of the emotions of feeling anger, self doubt, worthlessness, dread, darkness/depression, etc.

For those of you who haven’t been through this before, remember this… This isn’t about you and is in NO WAY a reflection of who you are or what you’ve achieved.

This is about numbers and a bunch of clueless mo--ns who somehow got propelled into decision making positions, who value those numbers above all else, regardless of how misleading that information may be (have you SEEN some of the tableau reports that upper management blindly follows around here?).

They don’t understand the difference you make here every single day to make this place successful … because that’s how mismanaged / terrible companies work. but don’t worry, they’ll be figuring it out (the hard way) soon. I feel sorry for those who will be left behind to pick up the pieces from such short-sighted decisions.

Good luck to all of us! May we find much better places to land soon.

Fu-k Schwab.

There is value in self reflection, the key is to remember there is market value and intrinsic value. Your intrinsic value will often be higher than what you get paid or where you work. Just as there are good companies that get beat up in the market, there are good people that will be laid off. Yes, reflect on choices, maybe skills, but remember your value is intrinsic to who you are, your character and your life outside work.

While it su-ks to get laid-off the truth is that it sometimes it opens the door to better things. Almost everyone I know that has been laid off from Schwab went on to work for bigger and better companies. The company does have a good reputation among HRs and there is great value to have Schwab on your resume.

This isn't to gloss over the insecurity and anxiety that is felt during the job search - its genuinely horrible, but it can result in better things and better days.

Daily affirmations with Stuart Smalley. I'm good enough, smart enough, and dawg gone it, people like me. No, no, no.... I'm worthless, useless... I will never amount to anything....
