Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Raghu’s email that he never sent

Hello Team,

As you maybe aware, the UK approval from the CMA had been received and with the expiration of the US FTC deadline for objections, Broadcom is now effectively clear to close the purchase of VMware.

Due to the US WARN act, Broadcom is required to provide at least 60-days notice to people whose jobs will be affected. We are expecting this to apply to a large number of VMware employees. Broadcom has stated that they expect to close the transaction on October 31st meaning that these notices will be distributed on August 31st.

Please be assured that VMware severance package will be offered to all employees affected. Exact details will vary based on local geo so please look out for an email from your local HR team.

As the CEO, my position will also be affected and my last day with VMware will be October 31st. Until then, I hope you, like I, will remain focused on the main thing, which is providing a first class experience to our customers while we embark upon this exciting transition.

CGPT reworded:

Dear Team,

We would like to inform you that the UK approval from the CMA has been obtained. Additionally, with the expiration of the US FTC deadline for objections, Broadcom is now in a position to proceed with the acquisition of VMware.

Considering the requirements of the US WARN act, Broadcom is obligated to give a notice of at least 60 days to employees whose roles will be impacted. It is anticipated that a substantial number of VMware employees will fall under this category. Broadcom has indicated that the transaction is projected to be finalized by October 31st, hence these notifications will be dispatched on August 31st.

We want to assure you that a comprehensive VMware severance package will be extended to all affected employees. Specifics of the package will differ based on your local region, and you can expect an email from your local HR team containing detailed information.

I, as the CEO, will also experience changes in my role, with my last day at VMware set for October 31st. Until that time, I encourage you to, like me, remain dedicated to our primary goal of delivering an exceptional experience to our customers as we navigate this thrilling period of transition.

Best Regards!
