Thread regarding Western Digital Corp. layoffs

Are we losing our reputation?

Few months ago we were hacked and customers were not able to access their data for weeks.

Now it turns that our expensive devices are losing data.

Will we be able to gain our reputation back?

Lynne Cox has a horrible professional reputation. Not just at WD but at Cisco, OpenDNS, Yahoo and everywhere else she has worked. What is she doing?? Inflicting the same reign of te---r she has always inflicted wherever she goes. She’s collecting a big check so she can buy more overpriced tacky designer items. Putting a power hungry, manipulative bully in charge of WD’s reputation management is the kiss of death….

For a while iPods used micro drives. Then a problem hit in the production.

HGST kept Apple well informed of the issue and efforts to fix it. If memory serves, the problem was traced to the glass disks provided by a vendor.

The openness kept the reputation even as the company was making a bad product

WD is silent on the SSD failures. Instead of helping customers they are discounting the bad product. This will have long term damage to the company.

Always interesting to see people blame diversity programs. I’m damned good at my job. No diversity hire will be able to replace me.

But I guess if you are mediocre you need a scapegoat.

WDs rputation, talent, revinue, and marketshare were all sacrificed to make executives wealthier. Why pretend they're about to change?

Our vendors vomit a little in their mouths when they’re assigned to our account. The only thing making it worse is our execs who think we’re “world-class” lol

It's sad to see a previously great company make so many pi-s poor decisions. SanDisk never really had a reputation... not sure why people thought it did. Their cr-p failed throughout the 2000's. The legacy IBM HDD line was the gem, further polished by HGST, and later dump like a tu-d down the toilet. All the people who made WD money are gone. WD had cash, not technology. They recognized this and bought HGST for the technology and patents. They also poorly hedged by buying SanDisk.

The HDD line was floating the company for several years by brining in roughly 60% profit. Meanwhile SanDisk had majority revenue, but cr-p profit. Fremont HDD has been trying to play catch up for years and failing spectacularly.

WD chose to go all in on SSD neglecting HDD. This strategy failed. HDD lost most if not all of it's talent. Their middle managers are ignorant about thier process. They don't even know their own lines anymore. Most of the important development engineers bailed due to the toxic environment.

The only thing more funny than operations is the global IT team. Never seen so many posers in one gathering before or IT Technologists that don't know how to open a remote shell via SSH. It's a comedy at this point. How did the IT outsourcing strategy work out? Must be hard to get IT support for critical manufacturing processes when your IT team is 12 hours over the pond. What use to takes hours to fix now takes literal weeks. Although I guess that doesn't matter anymore now that a good majority of tools have been SPO'ed for cost saving. How many Spotfire and Tableau reports are going to be made over months to never be used? Not even going to talk about the IT breaches...

Oh yeah, titles mean absolutely nothing at this company... a supervisor could be making 70k to 90k on the line, while the same title could be making 200k elsewhere. They give inflated titles to id--ts with less money and big money to some people with smaller titles moving the business forward in order to not hurt peoples feelings.

With all that said and done, the company has gone woke. HR constantly pushing their DEI ( aka DIE ) cr-p when they should be focused on talent acquisition regardless of rave, creed, or s-x. Keep filling your ranks with tokens. That always works well. Pay no attention to the attrition rate. What is it now 3 months? WD is a great training ground for people to skill up and jump over to their competitors.

You will continue to lose brand equity and reputation until you make changes. Ask Lynn Cox what she is doing to help with brand reputation..as a company, the brand is at its lowest! Would ask to see Net Promoter Scores!
