Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

LinkedIn Article Weighs In … Pretty sure this was a paid advertisement by Walt

There are not enough barfing and Pinocchio emojis in the world …….. per the article Schwab is being an absolute saint with severance packages, job assistance, etc. YET IT'S 3 MONTHS SINCE ANNOUNCEMENT AND WE STILL DON'T KNOW WHO, HOW MANY, WHEN, ETC.

But whoever wrote this article (Eddie Starr) seems to be in the know in terms of how compliance will be realigned….

@gdn+1oW5u8y1 With regard to remote vs. RTO - I think they could've satisfied their need for more people in the office while keeping employees happy and productive by just providing a commuter benefit and extra PTO for those who sign (and adhere) to the 3+ days/week. I stay remote but go in from time to time — it's the cost and commuting time that keep me from going in more often. Now, the reactionary decision-making has resulted in much higher than anticipated costs to force folks back into the office without enough space to put them (even post-layoffs).

There will be a lot of spin stories.

For how many, figure 3,500 based on the half billion target. Fewer if the upper end statement is true. Perhaps more so they can hire cheaper.

They don’t have space for the current headcount. They may go higher to fit existing space and then hire when they build the new building as part of a geography strategy.

Very sad that old thinking is winning over remote work. When I hire requiring in office I get the best candidate within 30 miles or so. Pretty limiting when there is global talent.
