VPs are traveling because they have to look busy to the minions.
Some travel is required, but in many cases it is just peer pressure to travel, since every other VP is traveling on company dime these days!
An eye popping statement was made by a 3M mid manager during the pandemic era. This person confessed that more than 80 % of her scheduled meetings were not worth it and she finally got rid of it during COVID, to improve productivity.
So, yeah let's put more meetings and travel on the schedule and try to look super busy and justify the fat checks every month.
I've met a few of these folks. They work their buttons off and are constantly dealing with disgruntled employees who spout off here. If these folks want to accumulate some extra airline miles and hotel points before they have to work under the heavy hand of Monish and Peter, they have earned it.
As for townhalls, all you do is whine and complain. Start clapping and sharing your support and they'll have your back too.
I hear that its the best time to see the fall colors.
