Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

Medical insurance

What do people who have been laid off do regarding medical insurance? Knowing that more layoffs are likely, that's the thing I worry about the most right now. Especially now that I know that finding a new job might not be as easy as it was last year. And that's putting it mildly.

I’m sure you’re joking…. But if $1000+ a month for family coverage is affordable, with extremely high deductibles, co-pays, and massive out of pocket maximums you’ve got nothing to worry about!

Sabre had incredible insurance…. They can’t afford to keep that up.

Got laid off in May. Company still pays their portion for however your severance pay is. After that, you pay your portion PLUS company subsidy.

New employer may or may not require you start over with deductibles\Max out of pocket or may not.

You gotta do your own math to see if it's better to keep COBRA thru end of year and start start fresh with new insurance on 01Jan.

Bonus: if you've reached out of pocket Max, not only is every prescription, office visit, procedure free to you, Sabre is self insured soooooooo, they gotta pay for everything.

Just checked and Obamacare is amazingly affordable. Big relief.

Find that old high school crush asap and marry him or her! If they have a good job you’ll thank me after Sabre goes nuts deep in you.

if i recall correctly, employees laid off in north america had coverage for a few weeks after being laid off and then had the option to enroll in cobra after that. cobra is not cheap - you might want to look into obamacare
