Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Is everybody prepared for the coming week?

I know it hasn't been officially confirmed, but most of the chatter pointed to the first week of October as the most likely for layoffs. I did all I could think of, including sending out some applications. All I can do now is sit and wait to see what's going to happen.

@1nlm+1oTuck1k We might think all the points you said. Unfortunately it’s just not the way CS is dealing with it.

They have set a tentative week around q3 results date. But it’s not a confirmed date though.

Where are you getting no date has been set?

You really think a company that is so risk averse would just make a game time decision like this? Like they haven’t figured out the date that puts them in the best spot from a financial and legal standpoint?

Granted this week isn’t looking likely anymore but atleast there was solid reasoning behind it.

No date is set yet. Layoffs won’t happen this week. They will decide couple of days before they do it.

@tey+1oTuck1k Not a peep from any PLs yet. Either they are not on this board or it isn't tomorrow.

@lzm+1oTuck1k here. You are right @bkk+1oTuck1k. Unfortunately they are not communicating with MDs regarding anything related to layoffs. We just don’t know. When pressed, my manager revealed once that it will be just before q3 results announcement which is 3rd week of October. This is all most MDs know as of now.

@yvr+1oTuck1k Agreed, so acting like they’re still deciding what to do also sends the wrong message. As if they’re still thinking about who, when and where it’ll happen.

People need to prepare and delaying it only sets them up for failure. Action is needed now rather than waiting

Interesting find @ajw+1oTuck1k.
MD here. I don’t have anything around layoffs and I have been here for 15+ years. None of the others MDs and directors with who I have good rapport has any clue. We are all in blind.

@sev+1oTuck1k it’s no joke and people’s livelihood is on the line and a lot of people are on the edge. Do not spread misinformation.

@kqt+1oTuck1k There is an Executive Council email list in outlook so it’s not hard to see that they are all in today through Wednesday. That not one person is out is very interesting to me.

It is not tomorrow. Date is not set yet. It’s mid October and it’s still speculative. It’s unfortunate it’s this way but that’s the reality.

I’m sure by EOD PLs will get a tiny heads up if it’s tomorrow. Can’t do it early otherwise all he-l breaks loose

By 3 pm PT I’m sure this site is going to be buzzing if there’s real word on tomorrow being the day…

Until then just keep moving your mouse to make it look like you’re active while you apply for other jobs

Ready. My truck loaded with jetskis, beer in the fridge, a few buddies on speed dial. Resume updated. Bring it on while it is still sunny. Plan B, if they keep dragging their feet: tickets to Las Vegas ;)

Just seems like everyone I’ve been in contact with today is on edge. Maybe it’s just my own suspicion but partners in comms are trying to play it cool while still being very unclear on answer questions

Wouldn’t say I’m grateful for how things have been handled (master class on what NOT to do) but I am making the best of it. Doctors appt, checking in financially, networking etc.

I for one am grateful for this stretching out. Stretch it out longer if possible. We continue to get paychecks. We get extra time to prepare - resumes, update linkedin profile, refresh contacts, gear up for interviews, and etc. Take care of medical needs.

This week it’s gonna start. Maybe specific orgs and they’ll do it one by one… but this week it will begin.

Then we can expect a month of confusion while teams get re organized and reassigned. More murky communication. And then, before you know it, it’s time to be back in office with more confusion

For a company that loves to claim the idea of having a “challenger mindset” they sure like to do things the same…

After the layoffs are done and RTO is complete it’ll be business as usual. New ideas get squashed under mountains of red tape, meetings will happen to discuss meetings to prepare for meetings, and everyone will need to be involved in every possible action happening to say important things like “to piggy back off…”

Can’t wait to get out.

Walt even went as far to say Schwabbies are thankful for the way it's being handled! Completely out of touch.

I imagine the EC is very excited, they finally get to get rid of all these unappreciative Scalawags. It's going to be like Christmas, with their bonuses going up while they Hi-5 and play a recording of absentee Schwab family members making slot machine noises in the background!
Happy Holidays, peons.

@cnl+1oTuck1k Walt is quoted as saying that "in a way" he wishes there was a better way to handle it. There just isn't. Thousands of public companies have had millions of people laid off that handled it entirely differently and compassionately. For us, there simply isn't any other way to do it. 🤷‍♂️

Stretching this out this long seems unnecessary. Hard to understand the thinking. Seems off brand for Walt who usually has good instincts so I'm thinking this was the brainchild of the those who are playing with less firepower.

Exactly. If it helps at all, you’re no alone. I’m not ready and also we need to be. It’s going to be what it’s going to be. Nothing much anyone outside the EC can do.
