Thread regarding VMware layoffs

The promises were all Hock-wash?

During the interview with VMW in the initial stages of the merger (in May 2022) I recall Hock said those who would be laid off would be well taken care of.

That a bunch of BS. So now they are going to just give the required WARN notice pay and 1 week/year, that's the minimum and far from "being well taken care of".

Meta's severance package was 16 weeks of pay for ALL employees, PLUS 2 weeks/year PLUS RSU vesting for 90 days I believe. Now, THAT is a great package.

Stop whining.

Hock said those who would be laid off would be well taken care of.

Your fault for believing that myth, Hock’s trail of destruction is well known. Don’t come here looking for sympathy.

BTW, there is a bridge in Brooklyn I’d like to sell you cheap!

I hope they remove access to my email and then send me my termination email. It will be a fitting end to this shít show.

It's true. The only thing that you can count on will be in the email you receive. That is the only official 'in writing' notice that will affect you personally. Nothing prior matters.

It's inevitable this issue will eventually resurface. You forgot. But, you were warned.

Those who chose to stay at VMW following the acquisition announcement were told what to expect by former CA and Symantec employees who have been down this path before.

Those who chose to wait for their fictional 'severance windfall' must now face the reality.

"He is not in charge yet.

When he is, your naive head will be spinning."

You clearly do not know how M&As work. Specially $61B ones. When you are under an agreement, you cannot make decisions worth hundreds of millions of dollars without agreements with acquiring party. So he has to agree to giving out all these $$s before VMW can give them.

And when he will be in charge, I will be laid off. I have made my peace with that. You clearly are in a denial and pi---d off. If you wanted more money, you should have been working at Meta or Google. Why are you stuck here? Be happy you are getting something. They don't HAVE TO give all this stuff out. But they did.

And if you are so pi---d off, then don't sign your severance agreement and don't take the severance pay. Go sue Hock and BC. Then see what happens.

Best Regards

So if he agreed to all these, what makes you so sure he will cheat you in the end?

He is not in charge yet.

This is Private Fn Equity rules. Think squid games with PhDs and spreadsheets.

You can’t handle the truth, so sad.

You are being taken care of. He wasn't wrong in what he said. You just want better care.

This isn't Meta.

How do you know you will not be taken care off? No one has been laid off yet !! I hate the way this leadership has ruined the company with horrible systems and processes where we just give away our product for free as we cannot see or enforce any cheating from our customers. BUT this leadership has so far done everything they can to make sure we are compensated properly - the retention RSUs with layoff vesting clause, H1 bonus, Q3 bonus extra. From my M&A experience, I can tell that Hock has to agree to all of these even if we are an independent company because these are hundreds of millions of dollars kind of decisions. VMWare can ignore Hock and take these decisions, but that is not how $61B acquisition works. So if he agreed to all these, what makes you so sure he will cheat you in the end? Yes we are not Facebook or Google but what has been done so far is far better then other big tech companies where they lay you off before fiscal year closes so that they don't have to pay you a Bonus.

Also for all those who think they will get only 2 months of WARN and 1 week/yr, be ready to be surprised when you get 2 more months free !!! And when you get those 2 extra months of pay please come back to this post and change your vote to a Up Vote !

It's all documented. In the US at least. You'd get 4 months (2 months warn notice, plus 2 months....just because) plus 1 week for every year of service up to 8 weeks. So 4-6 months depending on tenure.
Transition offers are said to include a 50% upon completion, to make sure people actually work. So, if you get a transition offer for 6 months, you'd earn 9 months of pay if you stick around. It's not bad for a country that has "at will" employment in most states.

For the US people, there is a published policy, and it says that for employees below VP level, if you are just laid off, not transition: (a) two (2) months of base salary, and (b) the Company will pay an additional lump sum severance payment equal to one (1) week of the eligible employee’s base salary for each full “Year of Service” (as defined herein) through the Termination Date, without pro-ration for any partial year of service, up to a maximum of twelve (12) weeks, and (c) Three Months COBRA Subsidy (employee has to enroll).
