Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

I'm falling apart

These layoffs have been stressing me out. This year is just no the best for me. Being the sol bread winner for my family has been a lot of pressure. I'm scared I'm going to fail.. I wouldn't be surprised if I become homeless next year due to the layoffs.

Yes, by all means, don't be ok. Personally, I don't care if you are ok or not ok. I'm not "basking under the sun", but I am not letting the worry consume me either. Everyone handles stress in different ways. Sounds like your way works for you. Great. My way, let it go, knowing if and when it happens, then we deal with it.

@1uzz+1oN249s5 choosing not to "speak" about real concerns does not protect you from them. Many of us are in a position where homelessness is possible, just because coworkers don't tell you what's in their bank account doesn't mean they aren't struggling.

You have to change that mindset. You don’t know how powerful you are and how you can instantly change your life by just taking action and not waiting for Schwab to control your destiny. Start acting now. Evaluate your skills and your passion to determine what other role will suit you best and start searching for that position. Look outside of Schwab, create your back up plan. Don’t sit and wait. Schwab is not the only corporation in this world. Plenty of other companies you can work for. And now with so many remote opportunities it doesn’t even have to be in your home state. Wake up and make a move. And stop with the negative thoughts and speaking homelessness into existence. Thoughts becomes things.

Kudos to all the folks who have felt less stressed because they magically “let go” of worrying about layoffs. How does one actually do that in practice? The non-worriers keep coming back to this website to tell the rest of us not to worry. Why are you on this board? Should you be basking in the sun enjoying your worry free life?

I’m personally not in that boat …. I’m scared as he-l. I don’t want to leave Schwab or be fired because I worked hard to get here - as I’m sure many of you did too. It’s heartbreaking to think that all of this effort will be gone in an instant at the whim of someone who I don’t even know.

It’s okay to not be okay. Sending hugs to OP and others who are struggling. And another hug for good measure.

I can't get over how mean some people are. Some of these replies are compassionate, with understanding, but yet people are down voting. I hope this is just because this is an anonomous site, otherwise some of you are really lousy human beings.

OP maybe you are letting off some steam, but to me it sounds like you should take control of what you can. You can't control layoffs and as as hard as it might be to hear: even if you survive this layoff there will be more layoffs from Schwab in the future. I've been at Schwab for a while and have been through at least 5 or 6 of these losing some good friends in the process for some stupid reasons. Seems like layoffs happen every couple of years at varying sizes and for varying reasons.

Taking control means that if you fear being laid off, then take control by moving to another position outside Schwab. Don't wait for some consultant or upper manager to decide your fate and if you are the sole bread winner in the family its your responsibility to proactive.

It su-ks, but Schwab doesn't care about you and your personal situation. You are the only one who can take the next step for you an your family.

I sincerely wish you good luck and hope you find some peace.

This is like therapy. Which smart Alec sent the email about layoffs. The whole chain who came up with the idea and approved it should have been fired by now! Zero trust in leadership. Do that first, and send an apology note for causing so much stress.

watch your actions, they become habits;
watch your habits, they become character;
watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.

Sorry to hear this OP . We are all in this together . Even though all of our circumstances might differ . This time too shall pass . Couple of things you can do . Share your anxiety with someone you trust . Friends , family , your wife . A lot of times people don’t share their frustrations and challenges . As someone who went through my own shares of pain , one thing that helped me was opening up to folks .

If you are a believer , share the burdens with your fellow believers . Use this time to upskill . Instead of focusing on tomorrow , try to focus on what you have in your control today . I know it’s hard . But again worrying about something where we have no control helps either . And as others suggested use employee assistance services . Take care fellow Schwabbie.

I'm falling apart. No one cares but for themselves as times are trying. I'm just a number and not a human. Now I'm no one I am nothing. I am a story that will not be read because it's just business. I'm sorry to all who have to go through this 😭.

Another post lost to the void. Another voice that once spoken no longer heard.

Remember, so far you’re batting 1000. You landed a great job with a large company. You have a family that you support fully with your skills, (nice job!!), and I am sure there are many other positive things in your life. You will look back on these times as a season of growth. I would suggest you hone some other skills and use those skills to make another stream of income. Besides my W-2 income, I have passive income and some income coaching people to become better at a particular sport. I am also not afraid to do Uber or something like that. I love exploring the city driving around. Start working on that today. You will feel some accomplishment. God bless you!

If you haven’t already, I recommend using your 6 EAP therapy sessions. It’s really helped me cope with downward spiraling into worst case scenarios with all of this. I’ve also maxed out my depression/anxiety meds while dealing with all of this. Meds may not be right for everyone, but it’s helping me get through this time.

Don't despair. I feel your pain. Many of us do, and probably are in similar situation as you. With the same fears. If this is any help, just try to let it go. I was stressed for a while as well. But I came to the realization that all of this is beyond my control, and worrying about it now is just useless. I know that is easier said than done, as I was there.

You won't be homeless.
