Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

Dear Karthik Rao…

I hope this letter finds you well. On behalf of everyone who’s left, I would like to extend a warm welcome to you as our new CEO. We don’t know how to feel about this transition! We do know you’re consistent in being Karthik… let that marinate!

As you step into this role, we wanted to take a moment to share our expectations and hopes for the future. We believe that clear communication is essential for a successful organization, and we hope that you will foster an environment where open dialogue (like you demonstrated a few months ago 😉) and TRUTH are encouraged.

First and foremost, we expect you to provide a clear vision and direction for the company. We understand that change is inevitable, and we are ready to adapt, but we also VALUE STABILITY and CONSISTENCY. We hope that you will strike a balance between innovation and maintaining the core values that have made NIELSEN relevant for the last 100 years!

Furthermore, we expect you to be approachable and accessible. We believe that a leader who is open to feedback and ideas from all levels of the organization (from the janitor to the board) can create a culture of collaboration and growth. We hope that you will actively engage with employees, listen to their concerns, and provide guidance and support when needed.

In addition, we expect you to prioritize employee development and well-being. We believe that investing in our people is crucial for long-term success. We hope that you will provide opportunities for professional growth, foster a positive work environment, and promote work-life balance.

Lastly, we expect you to lead by example. I know that can be difficult for you at times, but here is your chance to show the board, your employees, and everyone watching you’re not just a pretty face that enjoys throwing the bird or telling folks f-off.

You have substance and you are able to take Nielsen to next level! We believe that integrity, accountability, and ethical behavior are fundamental qualities of a successful leader. We hope that you will demonstrate these qualities in your actions and decisions, but still staying TRUE to who you are…..Karthik Rao!

We understand that taking on the role of CEO is a challenging task, and we want to support you in any way we can, but it’s going to take time to gain our TRUST back! We believe that by working together, we can achieve great things and take Nielsen to new heights.

At some point this emotional roller coaster ride needs to end. We need to get back to doing what we do best …. Being the global leader in audience measurement, data and analytics, shaping the future of media and shi&$&ing on our competitors. Last sentence was my attempt to tap in to the Karthik we all know and see on townhall! 😂

Sincerely,

Everyone that’s left

Did anybody see the job posting for Nielsen a couple weeks ago on LinkedIn? It was the exact job description of a coworker that got laid off

Is everyone missing the point of how this incredibly well written message is also an incredible tongue in cheek slap at KO?

@SMH— Citing the multiple interpretations was simply a device used to make a cautionary point (obviously WAY over your shaking 🫨 head) on speaking for ‘everyone’; ie, those who remain with Nielsen, as well as those who do not. In a time of less generosity of spirit I might urge you to heed your own advice to ‘slow down when you read,’ but that would be akin to asking the lame man to excercise more care when he walks….So instead, I’ll end on a note of optimism by hoping that you are one THAT HAS LEFT, and not one THAT IS LEFT, since Nielsen can’t afford to suffer more ignorance…

@‘EVERYONE THAT’S LEFT’… is that EVERYONE WHO’S LEFT (departed

smh....slow down when you read and maybe you will understand what contractions represent.

@ ambiguity or should we call you bitter Betty or Ben!

Reading comprehension is not your strong point! KR did NOT run Nielsen into the ground… last I checked KR was over AUDIO… ya know the part of Nielsen that keeps the lights on and employees paid!

And everyone knows that upper management is on this site…duh!

‘EVERYONE THAT’S LEFT’… is that EVERYONE WHO’S LEFT (departed Nielsen—involuntarily or otherwise), or EVERYONE WHO’S LEFT (remaining on as hapless Nielsen employees)? Regardless of the unintended ambiguity, this comes across as a sadly naive, albeit seemingly heartfelt, appeal that will likely fall on deaf ears, in a forum designed for employees, not a CEO who, if worth his ilk, would not need such urgings. Please be respectful of those who are ‘left’, who might be more skeptical, as well as those who aren’t ‘left’, who might be downright cynical, before signing off on behalf of ‘EVERYONE.’ —-Sincerely, SOMEONE Who’s Left
