Fake jobs postings

So many supposed job openings are not that. I've seen some during my job search that have been up for six months (and that's just since I started looking). Don't tell me it's taking that long to find an auditor with so many people applying! Why do companies do this? Why waste our time? I don't get it.

To say they are "growing" to increase their stock price and people's interest in the company.

yep, you will get an email 9 months later saying that after careful consideration they decided to go with some other candidate. You'll be like, who are you again?

I heard about the need to keep a pipeline of candidates. That’s not just Schwab, but done by other companies as well. That is horrible for Jon seekers though IMO.

I actually know a little about this! There’s a few reasons why companies do this. Look up a survey by Clarify Capital if curious. (I think it’s called ghost posting or something similar).

They might want to fill the role at a later time, and keep a pipeline of candidates. Or they just want to have an active pool in case of turnover, which obviously spooked. Another reason is HR finding a way to “justify their existence” by staying busy interviewing and clicking in that req (I’m not a total HR hater, just acknowledging this can be true). Third, there’s also the simplest explanation of forgetting to take it down/laziness. Also, I don’t think this applies to Schwab but some companies do it to appear as if they are growing. Some surveyed hiring managers said they do it to “keep current employees motivated”, but I honestly don’t get that.

You can thank Colorado. Thanks to some insane law, every single promotion and job transfer now has to be posted as if it's open to external candidates.
