Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Salaried Union

The Ford guys are having a pretty good discussion about starting a salaried union. Mary shouldn't mind, since she grew up in a UAW household.

Are you seriously referencing the Steel Industry? We have paid them hundreds of millions of dollars ON TOP OF what our piece price is with them the last 3 years. Clearly, we need to re-open Steel Mills here, but then that would increase competition, provide lots of jobs to communities. We wouldn't want that. Not unless we were offering to pay workers less than Mexican labor rates right?

Manufacturing will be the next to move out of the country. You guys are playing with fire and shortly will end up like other great Union companies like US STEEL and ALCOA.

Are you serious, after all the engineering jobs have already left.
The time to have done that would have been before the 5hit hit the fan, but I do agree that engineering needs to stick together and not be wimps.
Unfortunately the leverage is now gone, there are more engineers than jobs posted.

What does this have to do with layoffs?
Does GM own Ford?
