Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Farley admits Ford will go out of business if UAW demands are met

This will happen sooner rather than later even if UAW agrees to Ford current offer which they will not. EV business will destroy Ford.

If you believe that then you must also believe that $17/hour = $300k annually as reported by JF. 40% raise is not unrealistic, especially with the MASSIVE amount of money management receives annually.

Everybody on this forum absolutely loves Tesla. It seems EVs are going to be just fine.

We're going to go out of business because the leadership is putting too many eggs in the EV basket! Nobody wants them! Who wants a $100k truck that you can't even drive up north without stopping for charging? Doesn't take a genius to figure this sh-t out...

@ 1bjw. I’m wondering if you have been to CA lately. Everything is insanely expensive. Cost of living is 33% cheaper here than Orange County, CA where the Irvine office is located. Guess what? Ford doesn’t make up that difference.

“ There may also be a threat that ICE cars will be banned no matter what the voting public wants.”

Sure, governments can try. However, couple of problems with this; especially in large countries like US:
(1) Enforcement- they tried banning booze, did not work out so well. Plus see COVID vax - some people chose to lose a job rather get the vax.
(2) Some states ( think West, southwest, midwest) would out right fight this and pushback so bad it would be laughable for the fed to even try - those states industries (arg, tourism, oil ) live on petroleum.

To quote a movie line, you can’t legislate people’s feelings - the Na-is and Soviets tried , and they had a lot of help with a lot of g-ns and huge armies and they couldn’t do it.

Bill Ford, Jim Farley need to be arrested and charged with corporate malfeasance by the FBI and SEC. Reckless spending on pet projects, the Detroit Train Depot and the continuing stream of business failures. Institutional shareholders and the BOD won't hold these close accountable, someone needs to step in. I keep thinking about that clown that destroyed Sears and Kmart, using the company's assets as his personal ATM.

Corporate leadership should be required to pay 90% off their pay (including stock and bonuses) to offset any government funding provided. Let them let put their money on the line...

Finally Farley told the truth: with him as CEO the company will go bankrupt.

Tax payer's money should not be allowed to bail out the companies. Companies should fix their problems on their own without begging for the money.

Ford family pushes EV just so they can collect government handouts. The family didn’t invest a penny in EV, everything is from taxpayers. Shameful

They always say this when the UAW makes demands. That's how they got tiers, no pensions, etc.

He's a liar.

If the big 3 are banking on less workers to make EVs, then they can meet UAWs demands.

To all you believers in EVs. Stop drinking the koolaid. Solid state is the only way this will work and it’s not even close to being there.

The government will never let the auto industry fail, especially so if they are producing domestic EVs. I'd expect more EV subsidies coming down the pipe will offset the losses, management knows this which is why they are rushing to EV hard. A left-leaning gov would be less likely to bail out a company that is not making an EV effort.

Ford leadership made the right call. The transformation is not instantaneous. It takes time, so be patient until the plan begins to show the profitability.

Alan Mulally would have never rushed into EV business like this. He is very smart and knows how to handle difficult situations. Ford really needs him to save the company.

People can't afford EVs and Ford loses money on each vehicle. This is a lose-lose proposition. Ban EVs now. Shutdown Model e program. Save the company.

I’m sure there were promises by whoever or whatever is pushing this EV fad that governments would funnel taxpayer money to the car companies if they switched to EVs. There may also be a threat that ICE cars will be banned no matter what the voting public wants.

Ford rushed into EV business. This is not sustainable. Selling a 60k vehicle and losing 20k on it is a stupid idea.
