Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Walt's Q&A

Anyone else read that joke of a Q&A linked in the At Schwab email this morning? He's clearly trying to address some of the "rumors" we all discuss in here yet continued to lie through his teeth about them.

NO - we don't want people to leave before being laid off, that's not who we are, in fact we moved RTO for YOU GUYS (not because real estate told us our original date was impossible)
NO - we never promised we wouldn't change our WFH approach, but I did mention it at ONE town hall (conveniently leaving out not only mentioning it but stating it was the way of the future of work)
NO - we aren't in financial trouble - we've cleared 35%+ pre-tax profit margin for 33 CONSECUTIVE quarters BUT
YES - we are out of control in our spending and it's really important we get that down by laying off people (because apparently 35%+ profit margin isn't enough, they need MORE)

WHAT A JOKE

Walt has lost it and he knows it. Hope he enjoys his retirement without complaints.

@1orc+1oC8NoDU it’s like a tinpot dictatorship. Dear leader is never at fault.

Walt is a fu----g clown!!! The best was when he blamed the Fed for its “missteps.” “They waited too long. Then they hiked too fast.” Seriously?!? Take some personal responsibility. The man acts like he and Peter Crawford had no control on how they structured the balance sheet. Which then proceeded to blow up in their faces. Guy uses the passive voice like all this stuff just “happened” to him. He is so unlucky… Does he not understand that when you buy a bond you are making a bet on interest rates? He may not have understood the bet. But he was making one. Unfortunately it seems like his “bad luck” it will continue with these dipshits on the EC. They never admit any mistakes and never take any personal responsibility which means more pain to come…

I'm glad Walt is optimistic about the future. Nobody on my team or extended teams are happy. This board's activity is at an all time high, it has NEVER been this active. Schwab is the laughing stock of the virtual water cooler gossip sites. The firm's reputation is falling and it's falling fast. Walt should be ashamed. Morale is at an all time low. Even lower than when he speaks fondly of going from 25000 employees to 10000. Shame on Walt and the EC!

They can’t share this with shareholders. Glint is a paid advertisement: “this is why Schwab is such a great place to work”.

Managers are pressuring their reports to give high marks because their manager is pressuring them, etc.

They can stop paying for Glint Surveys. This is the survey right here. Raw, unfiltered, and to the point.

@oaw+1oC8NoDU You think they care? In his Q/A he explicitly stated that they over hired to make sure that TG happens without a hitch and now that it is done the company must practice financial discipline. That’s a subtle way of saying - you served your purpose, now out the door you go!

His newfound bad attitude Mr. Toughguy schtick is the #1 quickest way to create disengagement among employees.

The entire thing is so odd. Very defensive move to post this Q&A. All of us already know all the info, it was nothing new. Just “this is the way it is so shut up and be happy” basically.

I don't remember the word commitment anywhere in the WFP agreement I signed. At best it was an intention. Weak leaders will find things to attack things aren't going well.

💯. He is a child. He WON'T STOP TALKING ABOUT a thousand or so people not honoring their commitment so he took it out on the other 35,000. This man has serious issues and is not fit to be CEO.

@fff+1oC8NoDU I know right? The juxtaposition of the Q/A with the “thank you from our hearts for a successful TG” on the main page is black comedy at its best.

My group talked privately and we all agreed that the Q/A made the morale even worse.

WFH is a benefit given at the whim of Walt. Take note to those who are 100% remote and have to seek approval every 6 months.

It’s all about money. It’s always about money with the top dogs. “We have healthy profits, let’s find a way to make more money! Cough cough… (By cutting out the people that make the money and support day to day operations) cough cough…”

Meanwhile the top dogs sit on their fat salaries and even fatter incentive pay that they only get if the company hits x, y, and x targets.

@zjj+1oC8NoDU Yeah he's made his feelings on that very clear since he loves brining it up whenever he can. Sounds like a scorned father to me.

But apparently he decided punishing us all is the right move? They pi---d me off so you're all going to pay? If he was really SO upset with the people who said they were going to come in and then didn't - why not enforce their commitment on THEM only? You have the data, you know who those people are.

Let them all go mouth breathe in the office together and leave the rest of us alone.

@mri+1oC8NoDU It is sad what has happened to the company these days. Even sadder is the fact that I feel that society as a whole has a similar disconnect with the ruling overlords.

Sad that the best way we can try to get any answers is post concerns on here and hope someone from corporate notices… if that doesn’t tell you that your relationship with employees is completely broken, what does?

You can definitely see someone close to him is reading this site and reporting back. No Walt it is too late. No one will buy the BS of this interview. I do believe one part of the interview in which he says that he was disappointed about employee attendance of those whom committed to return to the office. From what I hear he was really p——- off and made this decision in a fit of rage.
