The gallant gentleman in question, whose initial are BE (since thelayoff prohibits names) was, according to his linkedin, a Global Project Executive from mid-2012 thru mid-2019.

For the assembled readers, I ask: Is Mr. E the outlier or the exemplar?

Did she really save his life? I know someone whose car broke down that fateful morning. So he owes his life to a broken fan belt? Had he died she would have still been in the same situation regardless.

Performance? Or was it her age being over 50s as the reason? Looks like this exec has filed an age discrimination lawsuit - he knows first hand how layoffs have happened in the past as we've seen by many filed complaints.
And he's talking about being truthful? Can he say the reason was age related from the top or IBM's lawyers will sue him for telling confidential information on what was going on?
Flying in first class to a meeting to decide on firing a person doesn't sound like legit to me.... was it really a clear cut lack of performance. .. typical reason? You don't expect he'll say oh IBM's decided to get rid of the old and hire the young right?

As someone who survived RA at IBM, relocated and then left, I was appalled to read how they had an in-person meeting to figure out what to do with this individual who caused so many issues. Could they just have a conference call? It is cheaper and faster. I suddenly understood where these executives are flying to every week. It was even more appalling to read that he considered her calling him and pushing to change the flight as a way to fix things. Had he ever thanked her for what she had done to him? Just curios.

Crazy. It tells a lot about the culture back then. It's not much better nowadays.

In this article seems like karma got him
He is also currently wrapped up in a lawsuit against IBM about how he too was fired from the company in 2019.

He and several other colleagues are jointly alleging age discrimination, per a legal filing reviewed by Insider. The case is unresolved, and IBM didn't respond to Insider's requests for comment, either about the events of 9/11 or the lawsuit.

Absolutely appalling - this individual is truly a lower form of life. No empathy, no compassion, and no gratitude - nothing but an entitled psychopath with delusions of grandeur ... and a typical manager in the "new" IBM. 😒
