Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Do layoffs come on fridays or mondays?

Curious - anyone who has been LR'd at Cisco know this? Or do they just do it randomly.

Layoffs happen on days when CR, FK and the rest of the ELT feel especially happy, so that they can laugh their heads off on All Hands calls while announcing the LRs. God bless Cisco!

You’ll know when it happens. You’ll log in, someone will either text you or call you to say they’ve heard LR’s are happening. You’ll check your calendar and see if your manager set up a meeting. There’s your answer if you’re on the k!ll list or not.

When my team's LR occurred, the manager sent an email about 30 min before the earnings call w/ a link to watch it and told us that he "highly encouraged us to watch it." The manager then bolted out of their office just before the earnings call started. Of course Chuckles said there would be a LR and that it was "limited" and was going to "restructure Cisco's focus around its priorities". During the Q&A session at the end of the earnings call, the manager started sending out our 1:1 invites for the first thing the next morning. You could tell who was LR'd by who had private meetings back-to-back and who was part of the group meeting after all the private ones.

There were lots of "good bye" webex messages happening that night between the earnings call meeting and the 1:1 meeting the next morning.

Depends on when your manager want to notify you.

Do smart posts come on Thursdays? A clear no!

I was hit on the last LR (Aug). Was notified on a Monday. And honestly, does it really matter what day of the week it happens?

Don’t let the anxiety ki-l you. The last package was very generous. (6 mos + unused PTO + 1 additional week for every yr of service beyond 5 yrs + career coach & resume writer)

Neither. In the beginning, Cisco used to announce the reductions well in advance of the notifications and managers were given 3 business days to notify impacted employees between Tue & Thurs given that most people take PTO on Mon's and Fri's if they're not taking the whole week, or start/end their PTO on Mon/Fri to add 3 extra day's off by only using 1 day of PTO.

Later on, Cisco started making the announcements during the earnings calls and employees were notified the next morning. It's possible that an earnings call could be on a Thurs, and employees notified the next day on Fri, but it's usually on a Tue or Wed.

Contractors, OTOH, usually get notified on Fri mornings that that will be their last day and spend the day handing off their work, turning in their laptop, badge, etc.

What does it matter which day it is? In either case, you're still an employee for ~ 30 more days and paid ~ 30 days pay in lieu of notice which meets the 60-day's notice requirements for CA.

it's a nightmare at work right now. Everyone knows LR is coming. Morale so low. Nobody works 100%... all stressed and edgy. It's like watching a slow motion guillotine blade falling before your eyes to your exposed neck.
