Thread regarding Nordstrom layoffs

North Shore - Peabody MA

How is this full line Nordstrom store still in business? My guess is the rent is exceptionally low (maybe $1/year), and the company is just waiting for the lease to end.

It’s not a high-end mall, and this store doesn’t carry any designers.

Makes no sense to have a full line store here, but only a Rack in Boston - on Newbury Street, a hub for luxury shopping.

Very interesting. I would picture them keeping Burlington - at least for a while longer at least. There’s a lot of money in the greater Burlington area, and that mall does incredible foot traffic on weekends.

South Shore is my favorite store in the suburbs. It’s 3 floors and has a very spacious men’s department. The mall itself is pretty ghetto, unfortunately. So wouldn’t be totally surprised to see the store close.

In Boston, I’ve heard that Saks does $300-$400M per year in sales (after NYC and Beverly Hills, it’s their 3rd biggest market). So seems silly to me that there’s only a Rack in the city.

Nordstrom has to many full line stores in the Boston suburbs, I’d thought this for years. North shore should close and they should also close either burlington or south shore. It’s been a while since I’ve had flash access, however I thought Burlington was worse off. I think some big expansive and expensive store closures have saved these stores, such as Canada and San Francisco. As the herd of FLX stores begins to thin out, these stores should be on the look out.

A few others east coast stores to keep in mind.

White Plains, NY
Sales at this store and the whole mall have continued to drop over the years

Newark, Delaware
IMO this store was a mistake to open, has been very low volume since its opening.

I think they will give NYC time, however I wouldn’t to shocked if they merged the men’s store into the women’s.
